.410 Yildiz Single-Shot

Post by GLS »

I mentioned on OG in my thread on my Baikal project 20 gauge single-shot yesterday that I had bought another “project” gun, a single-shot Yildiz .410. I paid $128.39 inclusive of sales tax to Academy Outdoor and Sports in Augusta, GA. The gun is imported to Texas from Turkey and is not available via mail order. Warranty work is done by Briley. The gun is not junk. The wood is better than the original wood on my Beretta 686. I don’t know if the stock checkering is by hand or laser cut, but it is definitely not roll pressed. The muzzle end is .375”—fixed full choke. The gun weighs a remarkable 3 lbs., 3 oz. My old 1911 pistols in comparison weighed a full 3 lbs. with fully loaded magazine. The receiver is aluminum but the breech end is steel. I had a chance to shoot it yesterday with handloads of 13/16 oz. of TSS9s. It appears to have sufficient density at 40 yards to make it a lethal weapon at that range. As expected, the gun has pretty fair muzzle flip with the load, some face slap, but recoil against the shoulder is mild. Three shots at a measured 40 yards (10”/10-20” rings): 88/104, 109/128 and 97/125. My eyes will need a red dot or at minimum, rifle sights. YMMV.
Yildiz compared to 20 gauge Baikal project gun 3 lbs, 3 oz. versus 5 lbs, 14 oz. (fully equipped as depicted)

Sweet!

Those patterns are better than what I get with my 12 ga and #4s in lead. That is mighty light. How long is the barrel?

28". Here are the specs:

Beretta at one time made a "folder" years ago that appears to be the same design.

Looks like a pretty nice setup. It will be a feather to carry. Good job.

It's either a coin toss or "eenie, meenie, minee, moe" choosing between the .410 or Baikal opening weekend, which btw is about 4 months away. Last weekend I picked up the .410 from William Lambert at Sumtoy. Trigger is sweet--light and crisp--and he great job mounting the FFIII. He had to mill an elongated flat triangle with base at chamber end to take out barrel taper and provide a flat spot for the Burris 336 base. I couldn't have done the projects without Williams' advice, expertise and competent work. Thanks, again, William. Here are the finished products:

Hal, ccleroy, the barrel is 28". I measured the choke to be .375 on an old dial caliper. William had a better caliper than mine and his measured .385".
