Apex - new .410 load

Post by joey46 »

Perfect timing. I'm setting up a new Stevens 301 (.410) and been trying to find aftermarket chokes, shells etc. At about 8am this morning the Apex Ammo web site introduced a new 7/8oz TSS .410 load in 9 1/2shot. Got ten on the way. Hopefully the Jeb's Head Hunter .385 choke I have on order will arrive without problems and this 301 will make a good light recoil combo for me and any youth hunter we take in the future. Realistically I want this to be a 30 yard and in gun. The south Florida swamps and cover we hunt rarely offers shots over 30 yards. In theory this combo with TSS should work fine. We'll see.

Only thing different about the apex ninja from regular apex is the box. Same tss but only comes in 8.5 except for .410 comes in 9.5

Looking forward to seeing how that combo shoots for you

The foxtrot coupled with a indiancreek 390 is showing excellent patterns

Nope, there’s a difference in the oz.
Ninjas are 7/8oz and the regular Apex .410 loads are 27/32oz

When I talked with an Apex guy on the phone he emphasized that. With a .410 a few extra pellets may make a big difference. 7/8 is .875, 27/32 is .843, that's a .032 increase of 9 1/2 shot in the new Ninja. Somebody can figure how many shot in .032 of 9 1/2. Whew - I did that without a calculator. My third grade teacher would be proud.

The Jeb's Headhunter arrived. Now all I need are the Apex shells to get here. Any recommendations for a red dot. I'll spend a little bit but won't go for the high $$ reflex etc. Thanks

I get your point. I was at a Bass Pro yesterday and saw several in the 400.00 and up range. On line I think there are some starting about 19.95. Middle ground would be nice.
