.410 hand loads

Post by kythunter »

Loaded a few .410 shells for the first time the other day and they are finicky little fellers. Loaded Hal's 13/16 and 370NM.
Spilled shot (9.5's) out of two of them while loading lol not good.. little shot all over the table and floor.
Ordered 410 nitro cards thinking I'd use them over powder...wrong. They're too thick not much room in the 3" fio hull. Used overshot card instead.
Normally roll with GAEP 12/20 but used Ballistics for the 410. Decent crimps. On one 370NM I used overshot card over powder and it didn't leave much hull to roll.
Hope to pattern this weekend weather permitting.
Anyone else use overshot card over powder for the 370NM load? Any combustion issues ?

370nm is the 7/8oz load?

IDK about issues. Brass shell has more room than you can fill up.

370NM has 370 grains of shot slightly less than 78NM.

Ive been loading the 370 NM

Overshot card between powder and wad
A 1/4” piece of foam on top of shot
Next, overshot card.
I do not trim Hull.
Roll with the gaep otp
They look perfect with no issues

I’ve never had the powder migration issues so I don’t use anything over the powder. Use the GAEP OTP.

You can seat the wad a little deeper if you split the osc into two pieces and use the more flexible thinnest piece over the powder. Gil
