16 Gauge Club
16 Gauge Club
Hoping to put a notch in the 16 gauge this year. I found a 870 Express, youth model with a 23" barrel. Have a .630 tube on the way and some #9 TSS, ready to test. April sure seems far away.....
Re: 16 Gauge Club
I got my Granddad's 16ga. Ranger pump, but he cut the stock down to fit him (he was 5'2") and I'm not going to change it. It was the first shotgun I ever shot when I was a kid.
I wish you good luck with your 16. I suspect the TSS payload ought to thump a gobbler. Take no prisoners.

I have both the 1 9/16 and the 1 7/8 loads to test. I shot the lighter load last year and it did well on paper. Was going to try them today, but the 45 mph wind did not let up.

I have the 28" Express and it shoots great. I've been watching for a 23" barrel or gun on the cheap but haven't come across another yet. Let us know how it patterns.
Get there early, stay late, sit still and don't use weather as an excuse to stay home.

I have an old J.C HIGGINS Bolt-Action action 16 Gauge. Barrel is about 28" and is marked- Full. Takes just 2 3/4" shells. The Piece that fits underneath to feed Shells is long gone. Just one shell at a time. Safety has to be pushed Backwards to be off. Patterns really good last April at 35 Yards. Took that out a few times last Spring. It is only about 6lbs. I painted the J.C.HIGGINS a Olive Green.

Awesome!!! I think you will like the .630 choke. Steve
Re: 16 Gauge Club
Well the 16 gauge got to bark this morning. Today is only our second day in PA. Saturday was very windy with gust over 50 mph. This morning was beautiful, no wind and light frost. Struck this bird about 10:30, so far away that I couldn't be sure it was a real gobble. Took about 45 minutes to get him to 30 yards, the my TSS did the DRT with 1 7/8 of 9.5's. Time to switch to the 410...

Goodn! Congrats to ya Yule!!!
Re: 16 Gauge Club
Awesome Yule!!! Nice gobbler!!! How do you like the .630 choke?
Re: 16 Gauge Club
Thanks. Not sure the .630 is the best set up for my gun. Results are average, just not as impressive as some of the other sub gauge ( 20 & 28 ) targets that I have shot. Sure can't complain with today's field performance! Now, on to the 410 bore.

I am thinking it is on the smaller frame.
Re: 16 Gauge Club
Way to go Yule! You don't hear much about 16 gauges but those blue hulls are too cool.
