28 ga 870 choke?

Post by vicksburg »

I am building a new turkey gun for myself and was wondering about choke options. I have an 870 28 gauge with a 25" bbl with rem threads. I have a regular full choke and am getting around 240 in 10" @40 with 1 1/2oz TSS 9's. Would like to do a little better but it seems my choke options are limited. I want a extended choke so the gun at least looks like a turkey gun. The only choke I can find is a Briley and may get an xtra full from them. Anyone have one in an 870? What kind of numbers? Anyone know of any other options, and if so, what numbers are you getting?

Get with SumToy on here, and get him to build you a .520 choke.

I didn't see 28 ga listed on his website, but I sent him a message since you suggested him. Thanks.

Anyone else?

240 is pretty strong with 9's. It ain't broke. Don't fix it.

Truth. Plus I bet it is a nice even looking pattern with the full.

I agree my Yildiz O/U 28ga did 244 with the factory full, and TSS 9's. The best I ever got from my Browning Gold 3.5" with Nitro's was 242!!! Having only one barrel I think that's plenty good enough!!!

Well, i'm new to the 28 ga, and i keep comparing it to my 20 ga... especially since it's only 1/8oz less of a load, i feel like it should be much better.... i was hoping for around 300 in 10"@40. At least 270-280... Is that unrealistic?

270 is possible. I've personally never gotten there with 9's, 9.5's...yes. I've been killing em for quite a few years with measly little 230-240 patterns and a flush full choke :D
