Fed HW 20ga 2 3/4" question

Post by Candyman »

My daughter told me yesterday she wants to kill a turkey. So I am excited she wants to and also scrambling. i bought some fed HW 2 3/4" 7's. I think that's the best option with the gun she will hunt with. I shoot tss from my encore but no way she could handle the recoil. She will be shooting my first shotgun- Remington 1100 LT 20 with a fixed modified barrel. What can I expect at 30-35 yards?

If she enjoys it I plan on getting a new barrel with chokes and "fixing" it up for next season.
I am shooting the gun tomorrow but wanted to see if any others have shot this combo.

Thanks

You're probably going to want to keep shots to 25 yds max with that combo. Both my kids shot the 2 3/4 HW 7's out of an 870 w/ an Undertaker choke and I wouldn't let them shoot past 30. For my patterning purposes it didn't have the density I liked any past 35 so that's why we stuck to 30. Plus at 6, 7, 8 & 9 yrs old 35 just seemed to far in practice. Just call em in close!

Not sure about the recoil on the Fed 2 3/4", but the Fed 3" are the hardest kicking 20ga shells I've ever shot. OUCH!!!!

Why not just have her shoot a light recoiling load of TSS 9?

I second this motion

There are no numbers on any of my clocks below 8. Then all of a sudden, 2 days before turkey season they appear. Then right after the season they disappear.
What's up with that

I agree 100%. But I don't have the time to get all the components for a 20. I have the 12 stuff but not 20. With our youth season opening 3/8 not much time....

After shooting the gun today looks like we are good to 30-32 yards.

With a modified choke I would have to agree that you need to stay at 25 or so. Here is what my daughter killed her first bird with. I would not let her shoot past 35 with this load and it was choked pretty heavy with the .550.
