Kate's gun

Post by Splittoe »

Started off using my Cabela's points to buy a youth 870 21" barrel. You have to pay for at least $0.01 of a firearm purchase.

Stock gun

Added a 12 gauge Knoxx Recoil reducing stock, Mesa 12-20 gauge adapter. Then I drilled and tapped the gun myself. First for me. Then added a Picatinny rail and FF2

Image

Loaded up Hal's 1-1/8 oz TSS. Lowered the powder a couple grains to lessen the recoil. Recoil is so low i can shoot this combo one handed. With the factory modified at 35 yards the combo had 120 in the 10". This was with shot trap mix from 7.5-9's. Prolly going to limit the shots to 30 yards and use straight 9's.

Our setup will be using the Caldwell Fieldpod. We practiced "shooting" turkeys on the TV.

26 days until youth opener. Can't wait.

I'd have bought one for everybody on this forum at that price. Well almost everybody.

I hope Kate gets to put it to good use!!!

I love it for deer hunting. It's like shooting off a bench. It has a lot of adjustability.
The tripod is included. Not sure if it's removable.

There is some glare so it's hard to read but this is one I did 2 years ago for a little girl with Hal's 1.25oz load. It's a 50yd pattern and very low on recoil in same gun.

There are no numbers on any of my clocks below 8. Then all of a sudden, 2 days before turkey season they appear. Then right after the season they disappear.
What's up with that

Very nice. I could tighten that pattern up with a tighter choke, but wanted some forgiveness at 15-20 yards. Going to straight 9's should also help the numbers. As she gets older I'll prolly up the payload.

I like how you and your girls roll, it won't be long until I am in the same boat with my daughters. Great post, thanks for sharing.
