Winchester 1300 Youth Ranger

Post by BuckyT »

My father bought me a Winchester 1300 Youth Ranger in 1989.

The gun is in excellent condition. I'm in the process of setting it up to turkey hunt. Bought a factory cap with a swivel stud. Original cap didn't have one. Have a swivel kit on the way. Going to drill and tap the stock.

I fired a Big 20 XLS load through it with the factory modified winchoke that came with it. It put 49 pellets in the 10" circle at 40yds. Going to play around with some turkey chokes here soon.

It's a sweet shooting gun. The action is as smooth as they come too. I was curious if anybody here hunts with one? Seems an 870 Youth reigns supreme. Lol

Waiting on a Carlson's .575 extended right now. I'll post up a pic when I get to the range.

I got the Carlson's .575 and fired a couple of Big 20XLS loads. I had some Big 20 XL's but I left them at the house... lol

I fired 2 shots at 40yds. I fired both through a clean barrel. 229 and 228 in the 10". I honestly am very happy with the pattern. I didn't draw a 20" ring, but the patterns were nice and even. My 9yr old will be hunting with it this season and this was what I was looking for. I'll probably pick up a tighter choke. Maybe another Carlson's in the .565 category or an IC .555.
