I'm blaming this on TSS....

Post by Lonster »

I started loading and shooting TSS last year for 20 gauge (my 870, my Affinity and better-half's M2) and I was quite pleased to say the least.
Being the type that is hardly ever completely satisfied as well as always needing a new challenge or project, I broke down and bought a new Franchi 48AL Deluxe 28 gauge!
I hope that the factory full works out and I have plenty of TSS #9's on hand, just need load data and the remaining components.
Any advise?
Should I get 9.5's or stick with 9's?
I don't want to reinvent the wheel, hoping to get sound advice from you guys knowledgeable about the Franchi 48AL 28 gauge and TSS.
My barrel is 26"

Pic just to show this beautiful SOB off :-)

Most people shooting the 28 gauge is using Hal's 1 1/2 ounce recipe. I have decided to use this one for my 870 when I get around to setting it up. I am going to duplex 9s and 9.5s in mine though. Probably will start with a Briley extended full choke as well, but may use an extra full choke too. Haven't decided on choke yet.

Sweet! Mine likes both the 1-5/16 oz load and the 1-1/2 oz load. The 1-5/16oz'er averages about 240, with the heavier load averaging around 225. That's with the factory full and 9.5's. I hunted with the 1.5oz last year just because that's what I had loaded. It worked. I actually prefer the pattern of the smaller payload, it's just more uniform....but it is lacking a bit in the 10-20". I wouldn't be scared of the 9.5's. They'll kill one farther than I wanna shoot. You'll be fine with either. I'll likely be going to 9's when I run out of 9.5's.
Feel, don't think. Trust your instincts.

 That sure is a mighty shiny and purdy gun to be bumping around in the turkey woods.

Franchi uses nice wood on the 48AL Deluxe. Yours is no exception. Gil
