Youth Model 870 21" barrel
Have a new project with a Youth model 870 with 21" barrel. Shooting some 1 5/8oz. #9s TSS loads and looking for the best choke. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

In my special field 20ga with a 21" barrel I run an Indian ck. 555.

With this typical gun for my grandfather I'm wanting a 250-300 10" 200-250 20". I'm myself like 300+ 10". At 40yds

Trulock 585. Look no further.

I'm gonna be honest. It's hard to say. None of my 870 21" barrels like open chokes. I had to choke the crap out of them to get the numbers I wanted. I ran IC555 and IC562. If you want a choke that is guaranteed to shoot good consistent patterns go with the IC. The others mentioned...Carlsons 575/585 etc could do just fine but your going to have to shoot in your gun to find out. I couldn't get 200 in the 10" with any of them.

I have an ic 555 in my daughters 870 and I don't know the numbers of the top of my head but I know it was good enough that ididn't feel the need to fool with it. In other words I haven't seen anything that would flatout clean its clock.

Gophert, my 870 youth model was exactly the same way. All I could find on the forum was how a Carlson 575 or a Remington Super Full should work...not mine I tried em both. I also tried a Sumtoy 562. Then I ordered an IC. They sent me a 562 and I tried it but sent it back for a 555. My gun responds well to more choke.gophert wrote:I'm gonna be honest. It's hard to say. The Remington Ext SF lead only is pretty salty with TSS. It does 300 out of my 21" bbl youth model 870.

I went with an IC .570 which gave 290/290 with 9's and an IC .562 with 8's which gave 215/200.

Anyone got a short bbl they wanna part with? Got a 26 I'll trade
Re: Youth Model 870 21" barrel
Mine shot 240s with Carlson's 575 extended, 240s with an undertaker .575
260s with Jebs 560 non ported and the same with an Indian Creek 555.

It seems like on the guns I'm loading for the shorter the barrel you have the tighter your choke needs to be.
