20 gauge choke ?
I bought my son an 870 20 gauge youth model with 21" barrel. He will be shooting Tss loads. What choke do you recommend?
Thanks
Thanks

There's some good examples to look through in this thread:bennett188 wrote:I bought my son an 870 20 gauge youth model with 21" barrel. He will be shooting Tss loads. What choke do you recommend?

Re: 20 gauge choke ?
I would say it depends on what you are looking for. A super tight pattern or a more forgiving 50/50 pattern. Which load are you going to shoot? John Doe on here shoots awesome hunting patterns with a .575 carlson's( I think thats it) it does 260ish in the 10" circle and 260ish in the 20". Many get similar results with Rem SF. Also, that route save ya some cash. For the nasty tight patterns like Hookedspur shoots the IC .555 or IC .562 is the way to go.

I have had great results with the IC .570 for #9's and an IC .562 for #8's, both 1-5/8ths loads

Thanks for the great replies guys! It looks like I will be purchasing the IC .555.

No, No, No. Trulock 585. Stop right there. No need for expensive chokes. TSS eliminates the need for them.

Shooter shoots the Carlsons 575. Surprised JD didn't correct you on that also.
20 gauge choke ?
If your going to shoot TSS go get a cheap Carlsons 575 or 585 extended choke....if you want the 300+ numbers in the 10" go with the IC 555.

I'm a big fan of my Sumtoy .562 shooting #9s out of my Youth Model 20ga. It kills birds dead.

You could also try and cheap Primos Tight Wad.

Re: 20 gauge choke ?
That IC555 will do 300+ all day long at 40. Number chasing turns into missed turkeys according to some of these guys. I shoot turkeys when they get in range, so I like my 555. I'm not welcome to talk about my turkey stories on the other website. A 43 yard turkey kill will get you banned!!! Anyway, to much can go wrong for people who like to watch "the show". I have buddies who will agree to that because they've missed out on birds because of coyotes or bobcats or something that spooked the bird. It's hard enough to kill turkeys in Arkansas with the season we're given.
If you like them close, a more open choke would be better.

Re: 20 gauge choke ?
At real close range anything with the tss loads is going to be tight.
Re: 20 gauge choke ?
It's hard to beat the Rem SF lead choke with 1-5/8oz of 9s. If 300 in the 10 is the realm you're looking for.
