LONG BEARD TEST
I have a gf that got his LB ammo in the mail 2day and he just had 2go 2the range and try them out. He has a mossb with a IC.675 and @ 40yds got 294 in a 10" with the LB 3.5 : 12ga. : 2.oz # 6's. He tryed 3 other chokes, tur glo , xx full, stardot, and was from 190-250's so its all about the right combo. I have pics on my phone but cant post them up but i will be going to the range soon and will post pics then.
stardot @ 40 152 in a 10"
tru glo @ 40 230 in a 10"
factory xx full @ 40 191 in a 10"
IC.675 @ 40 294 in a 10"
All the shots were @ 40yds and temp was 45*

Re: LONG BEARD TEST
Here is the crazy thing that 190 at 40 yards is just as good as that 294.. Now we are nit picking lead, "Yeah I only got 190" Who woulda thunk.. Heck these things are putting up numbers inline with Hevi 7s..GOLD HUNTER wrote:190-250's so its all about the right combo.
I cannot say I have seen a pattern anywhere I would not feel comfortable hunting with from great chokes to what in the past would be considered junk..
What Tru Glo?
Thanks for sharing Brian

Do you think they will ever come out with a WIN LB in a 10 GA shell?

With the way things are going I think you will see a 20 gauge load before a 10..Trex18 wrote:Do you think they will ever come out with a WIN LB in a 10 GA shell?

Re: LONG BEARD TEST
I know the Drurys claimed to have killed a Tom at 66 yards but will these LEAD loads really be reliable at that range? I hope to never have to shoot at a turkey at 66 yards but I'd like to be able to shoot 55-60. Has anyone done any penetration tests with this stuff or does anyone have any kill reports with this stuff? Just looking for reliable info. I'm going to be shooting/testing some myself soon too though.

I don't doubt they killed one at 66yds, but you wouldn't believe me if you knew how many hunts they go on every year, and how many they have dropped the hammer on.wptaxidermy wrote:I know the Drurys claimed to have killed a Tom at 66 yards but will these LEAD loads really be reliable at that range? Ain't no telling how many they crippled up, and you will never hear about them either.
Personally, I would not fire one past 45yds.
Re: LONG BEARD TEST
Lead is lead. It only penetrates so far. Like any shot bigger gives more. Bigger shot will make for a thinner pattern. While I feel 50 is a max range for 5s you still have to have enough pattern density.
These shells seem to pattern well enough to get 50yd patterns.
Some have killed at greater distance with lead. I consider that just plain luck. I prefer my luck to be used up when I get to take a shot. At that point I want preparation to take over.

Re: LONG BEARD TEST
Friend bought a box of LB 3" 5s. Shot one today at 50 yds from my 26" 1187/IC .665. Not too shabby. Choke ate the wad up pretty bad, but the pattern is amazing for lead @ 50 yds. That's better than the best 40 yd pattern I ever shot with Pb 5s pre LB. Oh, and check out the velocity...1293 fps. KPY shows 1.25" gel penetration to 70 yds at that speed, even though the pattern would be long gone by then.

That sure looks good enough to drop a Tom at 50 yards. Wonder what the pattern would look like at 60 and at that velocity one would think it would be good. I'm going to shoot 3.5" #5's sometime over the summer (have to many chores to do for now that turkey season is over here). I'm planning on shooting them as well as Hevi-13 3.5" and 3" 6's though Tru Glow SSX and IC chokes out of my 835.

Re: LONG BEARD TEST
I think the 3" 5 pattern would be pretty anemic at 60, though the energy is there. KPY shows the 6s to penetrate 1.25" to 55 yds at 1293 fps. Either way, I think you are out of energy with the 6s and out of pattern with the 5s @ 55 yds. Can't see them being reliable 60 yd killers.wptaxidermy wrote:Spuriosity wrote:Friend bought a box of LB 3" 5s. Shot one today at 50 yds from my 26" 1187/IC .665. Not too shabby. Re: LONG BEARD TEST
Great pattern.. Those wads take a beating through both wad stopper and non stopper chokes.
