Browning Choke Help

Post by Swamp Hunter »

I've got a Browning Maxus and have been running Hal's 3" 2.25 oz #8 load with an Indian Creek .665 choke through it and its been a little inconsistent. I get anywhere from 230-300 hits in the 10. Is the IC .665 too tight for that load? Anybody got any choke recommendations for a Maxus?

I’m running a 665 IC in my Maxus with 1.75 ounce of T8’s. Hal’s load and I’m running at 240 consistently.

I have a Browning GoldHunter 12 g with a 24 inch barrel. I started with a .670 and it was too much constriction for me. I tried the Browning X Full Turkey Choke which threw a pretty nice hunting pattern but I wanted it tighter. I ended up with a Kick's Buck Kicker .690 and with Hal's 2 oz load of 8's I averaged around 275 sometimes close to 300 which was perfect for me. Hopefully el diablo chimes in because he's the one that helped me with mine probably 4 years ago and I'm pretty sure if you do a search you will see a lot of "killer" patterns with brownings and his name on them. Hopefully this helps. Shoot straight!

Can't speak for the Maxis but me and 4 buddies shoot Browning Gold Hunters. 3 of us run Kicks 680 (8's and/or 9's) with great results and 1 runs an IC 665 (9's) with great results.
I shoot 2oz they're shooting 2.25oz. Great results meaning 300+ and long kills.
From what I've seen the IC 665 is not too tight.

From talking with other folks running Inv Plus guns, the IC 675 can be the ticket if the 665 is a little inconsistent.

I got the 665 because it was a really good buy used, but if I keep hunting the Maxus for turkey after this season I will try a more open choke just to see.

I've heard good things about IC 675 as well.

I get a tighter core w/ the IC .665, but prefer the IC .675 in Invector + barrels. The IC .675 shines w/ any of the blended shells.
