Automatic sizing of pictures to fit requirement

Post by Jaybird » July 8th, 2012, 9:05 am

I've seen on this on other boards, where no matter what size the picture submitted to be posted, it automatically is downsized to fit. This obviously saves a lot of time to the posters in submitting pics. Is this something we could get here?

I like that as well.. Another thing, I like on the boards where when you are looking at a specific forum, you can scroll over the thread title, and the first few sentences of the thread appear.

Neither request is a standard feature of our forum script. However, I've done some searching and may have found some script modifications that will do the trick.

It won't happen overnight with my schedule this week, but I'll see what I can come up with.

Thanks,
Rick

Did you ever find away to get around the picture resizing issue. I'm still having a lot of problems getting pictures to go thru, because they are too large.

Thats interesting TS...thanks. I'll see about putting that into use to keep page width under control.

Jaybird, on the large images you mention, are you trying to "attach" them to a post here in the forum or trying to upload to your gallery. The gallery does resize images automatically and once uploaded there can be posted in the forum using their url (internet address) surrounded by the Image tags (bbcode).

For instance, inserting the following in a forum post...

Code: Select all

[img]http://gobblernation.com/photopost/data/518/medium/0074.JPG[/img]
...will display the gallery sized version of your image below:

Also, I'll upgrade the forum script within the next few days and will look into installing the "post preview" mod afterwards.

Rick, the problem I'm having is posting pictures to the forums. Posting pics to my albums is fine.

Here's the trick to posting pics in the Forum pages:

You need to open an account with Photobucket.com

Upload your pictures and resize them to somewhere close to 720X480

On the right there will be a few boxes of Links to share photo:

Copy and paste the IMG code into the forum box and BAM, you got it!

Hope that helps.

Our gallery resizes them for easy upload in posts with Img bracket. That is another reason we offer a free gallery so members can easily manage their photos.
I use photo bucket also.

If the Site does not have the ability to automatically downsize then so be it. Just a great feature, promoting more pictures by members, when it is installed.

Ended up making a few changes that should make things better.

Attachment images shown inline will now be shown as a smaller image which is clickable to display the full size image that was attached as in my test above. This will be the case only with attachments & will not have an affect on images posted using bbcode. Also changed some settings that will hopefully allow larger files to be uploaded, which I think was the problem Jaybird was having.

I'll probably still make the changes that TS mentioned to control the displayed width of images inserted into posts using bbcode.

As far as the post preview mod, it is installed. However it only works in the forum itself right now & not on the main portal page which is what most of us look at. The portal is a modification itself & will need to be upgraded before the post preview mod will work with it.

Jaybird, if you still have a problem with large images, send me one of them so I can do some testing: webmaster@gobblernation.com

Thanks,
Rick
