Re: 2015-2016 Georgia and South Carolina Woodcock Seasons
Awesome Gil, beautiful pics. Thanks for sharing. It really brought back some great memories. I haven't hunted woodcock since the early 80s when I moved away from New England, but oh man what wonderful days we had when a flight came in to our usual grouse covers overnight. You really are fortunate. W...

Oh yeah Those look nice and fat. One of the best eating freshwater fish in my book. Same family as a walleye.

Yep, one or the other. It is often possible to detect a bent barrel by looking through it at a light source. You'll see rings that skew to one side.

I think an FFIII, or any other optic, would help a lot. If you zero for 40 you shouldn't be off by more than an inch or so for close range. The line of site of the FF3 is still going to be very close to the end of the barrel and any line from that to the target.

Spectrum Analysis of Call performance
Anyone ever do a spectrum analysis of how a call performs and at what frequencies are optimal? My engineering mind would like to have data Lovett Williams has some sample spectrograms in his book The Voice and Vocabulary of the Wild Turkey and does some comparison between turkeys and calls. It is e...

Re: Finishing up 2015
Disappointing for me for sure, and my lab was really bummed. She always knows when a trip is coming up and sulked for days. I did manage to get her on some early season birds in South Dakota. My lab would rather hunt pheasants than anything else, I think. The only thing that she would like better wo...

Great pics and write-up. Thanks. We had to cancel our annual Thanksgiving pheasant hunting trip to Kansas because of the big storm that came through. Glad to see someone doing well.

Re: How many hot pepper fans are on here?
Following this thread with great interest. I love hot peppers, but I'm not in the same league. This is one area where age certainly doesn't help. The fire on the back end is ever disproportionate to the fire on the front. Habaneros and jalapenos are about my limit. My son, on the other hand, craves...

Re: Pair of Aces...king high
Nice pic. That chocolate ruff is cool. We had a fair mix of gray phase and red phase birds in the Massachusetts Berkshires. I loved hunting them growing up, but they also taught me to shoot too fast. That was a hard bad habit to overcome when I moved out west. You're a better man than I am...I coul...

Re: trumpet help
Coming late to the discussion, but I'll add my 2 cents as someone that is still on the steep learning curve. The trumpet makes a difference. The trumpet that I find easiest to get a good kee kee with is not the trumpet that gives me the best yelps and it isn't a subtle difference. I can get a decent...

Re: Tell us about your close calls with Critters
I used to hunt for wood ducks back in New England by putting on my waders and slowly wading a creek through an oak bottom looking for woodies feeding on the copious acorns. The creek really meandered and you never could see much ahead. It was a great way to hunt, perfectly noiseless, felt more like ...

Thanks for the great photos and write up. Glad to see you got your shooting back in the groove in the end. I don't know any bird hunter that hasn't had their share of shooting slumps.

Hey George, just wanted to say that we gave this recipe a try today and it was awesome. I did all the prep last night and put it in the crock pot this morning. Oh man did the house smell good when we got home. It went really well with a deep Aussie red. Everyone loves it.

I always took it as a good joke on pop culture and clever marketing by Hornady. Hard to imagine someone taking it seriously. At least no one has complained so far that they don't work on zombies. That's the guy I would be worried about.
