Re: 4 gauge
Very cool. Interesting action. I've never seen one like that before. I was expecting a larger shot charge than 2 3/4 ounce.

Re: Turkey tote
I use the paracord kind with a single loop on each end. Works great. Makes carrying them long distances a whole lot easier. I also carry some bags to put over bloody heads before synching up the paracord loop.

I have been building Amazon points to buy one of these units. The Inreach Plus is only slightly more expensive than the SE model, but with the added feature of your texts sending maps to text recipients. While it can GPS navigate, this is not its forte. Being able to summon help and communicate wit...

I set it up to automatically renew unless I go online and suspend. I don’t know yet how frequently I have to do that. But it also looks like you can prepay a set amount. It is any 30 days, not tied to the calendar. I will use mine April and May, then July while fishing in Colorado, and most likely o...

Some of the places we hunt in New Mexico can easily be well over an hour to the nearest phone or cell service by car before even getting off the forest roads. Being gone for several days without communication always causes anxiety at home, and there is the ever real possibility of someone getting se...

One of our favorites is to do Buffalo style turkey strips. https://farm1.staticflickr.com/809/27222683778_1527d2c42b_z_d.jpg The recipe is based on this one for chicken wings. They are "oven fried". Very easy. Never any leftovers. https://www.thespruce.com/oven-fried-buffalo-chicken-wings-...

That's a good one that I learned by accident but now use on purpose, mostly moving in parallel if the terrain allows. Another one I've used on stubborn gobblers is to cut off his gobble mid-gobble with hard cutting if he seems hung up or reluctant.

Between 100 and 250 miles to public land. The 100 mile trip can be a day trip if I leave by 3 AM or so. Everything else is usually a couple of nights or more, either in a cabin or a tent.

I've worked at those elevations above Ruidoso, NM (not too far from there) and will tell you it's more of a factor than most would expect. It's a big deal. Yes it is. I live at 6000 feet and hunt SNM every year. I sure notice that extra three or four thousand feet. It's good to hunt uphill if you c...

I shoot the 92s through an IC .562. They are obviously used but not mangled after a shot. But I’ve seen pictures from others that looked like a teething puppy got ahold of them.

Re: Replacement Trigger for an 870 Express Magnum Shotgun
I've done two Timney trigger kits, one for an 870 and one for an 11-87 and am very happy with the results. I set the pull to about 3.5 lbs. On the two I did, the Timney sears were a lot better than the stock sears that had a lot of creep. So not only was the pull a lot less, but the triggers now hav...

Re: Old SxS
It looks to be in fine shape with a nicely picked piece of wood for the stock. I like the sculpting of the hammers. Once a year my buddy and I join up with a vintagers group at Whittington here in New Mexico for a couple of days of shooting some fine old and not so old shotguns. Sure is fun.
Re: Old SxS
Old doubles, or any old gun, can be tricky. Chamber length can be shorter than 2 3/4" so you have to buy special shells or reload. Barrel integrity is a major concern on any old gun. Damascus barrels are considered by most to be non shootable. Saying that there are many (including me) who have...
