Re: Drill and Tap 870

The receiver thins out in its forward section where the barrel flange inserts into the receiver. If you were to mount a full-length picatinny or Weaver rail, the 2 forward screws would likely fall in that thin part of the receiver and arguably not have sufficient “meat” to withstand the recoil of ho...

Re: What's your favorite load?

That’s kinda gun-specific, but overall I’d pick a 2-3/4” load of 1-5/8 oz T-9s out in 12 ga. Most consistent performer, mild recoil and deadly...

Re: Ben Rodgers Lee (Ricky jo Bishops post)

Brings back some great memories. I’d remember more if it wasn’t for all the time I spent with his lead frame calls in my mouth. I bought dozens for 50 cents too. Early on, you had a choice of thick or thin latex. All single reed. Later double. No worries about air channels or trim/cut types. Simple ...

Just a hunch, but I’d say a “haymaker” from Iron Mike Tyson in his heyday...

If an 870 with a 26” barrel and pushing >1.5 oz of TSS thru it, I’d take a Remington Super Full (0.572) to the woods. If I was card shooting, maybe an IC .555

Nothing to it... I’ve quit several dozen times. Usually permanently. Seriously, key was finding something that meant more to me. Tobacco free now for >1.5 years. The nicotine receptors will fade steadily if you can just resist the urge for a “big fatty.” Take it a day, hour or minute at a time. What...

I haven't done the trigger replacement so I can't help there. But here's another option if your interested. I've replaced four of mine and it was a big improvement. And easy to install. https://www.mcarbo.com/store/p/29-Remington-Shotguns-870-11-87-1100-Remington-Rifles-750-7400-7600-Trigger-Spring...

Re: 12 ga 2 3/4” tss loads

The first load I came up with back in '06 with the 9s was a 2-3/4" 1-5/8 oz 12 ga load for my brother's old Wingmaster. It was a gun he won in the 80s in a biggest deer contest. Anyway, he killed two with it the next spring in TX that were much farther than polite company will talk about when ...

Re: 20 ga. 1-5/8 TSS vs. Same in 12 ga.

Since originating this post several months ago, I’ve loaded and shot a few 1-5/8 oz loads through my 12’s. Let’s just say I’m back in love with the big bore. Simpler loads, more balanced and consistent patterns than those I was getting by trying to squeeze the same amount of shot through a sub gauge...

Re: Carlson .555 for rem 870 21 inch barrel?

Been down that road. Go with the .575 nonported. .565 and .555 nonported choke patterns in a 21 inch barreled 870 20 gauge were blown pretty bad in my experience. .575 shot lights out. More than tight enough. That’s consistent with my observations of a .555 constriction as well, unless you’re shoot...

Any Downside to...

Any downside to shooting a short shell in a long chamber? In a shotgun, mind you  How about a 2-3/4” TSS load out of a 3-1/2” chambered 12 ga? With some of the relatively slow-burning powders used in hand loads, might it have implications for wad seal and performance? Other considerations???
