Re: FALL TURKEY SEASONS FOR ALL 49 STATES....

I think if states wanna have a fall season, it needs to be during a time when deer season is not open. I agree. About the only thing worse than a hen killer ( ) is a deer hunter plinking at turkeys.... I was real disappointed to see VA's mgmt plan state the goal to increase the number of ...

Re: FALL TURKEY SEASONS FOR ALL 49 STATES....

I agree. I'd be willing to give up a week of spring to hunt a week of fall. But Id still just target longbeards. Just a personal choice deal. I also agree killing 21 in one area can't be good On my last fall hunt last December, we called up a large group of birds - and I counted 102 that came by be...

Re: FALL TURKEY SEASONS FOR ALL 49 STATES....

One thing for certain, if you kill five poults at any age, that's five that will not see two years of age. Preach. Some areas obviously can support a fall season. But in the South where the spring seasons run for 6 to 8 weeks I don't see how the population could sustain itself without hunters makin...

Re: Gobblers on the limb

I always call to a roosted bird. I want him thinking about me before he flies down. If he's got hens around, I call as much or more than they do, to compete for his attention. I've never noticed calling causing a bird to stay in the tree longer, but I don't know how others call, so it's hard to say ...

Re: FALL TURKEY SEASONS FOR ALL 49 STATES....

Another issue I have with a fall season is the fact that a lot of the birds killed are 2 to 4 months old. Just does't sound like something I'd be interested in seeing happen around here. Lovett Williams used to talk about this. He was a proponent of shooting jakes during the fall/winter - because t...

Re: 8 days

Great pictures and story,...but I am a bit confused. The last pictures appear to be either Rios or Merriams, but I see no reference to any hunts other than in Eastern habitats. I know in the past you have mentioned hunting Utah, was there a change of venue not mentioned? If not, those are the oddes...

Re: 8 days

Day 7 Went back to GA and hunted one of the prettiest properties around. Had a lot of fun, but they were tight-lipped and unresponsive to my overtures. Day 8 My brother, youngest daughter, and I arrived at the place we planned on hunting just as gobbling was getting underway. We could not set up whe...

8 days

Only got to tote the gun 8 days this spring, but had an enjoyable season nonetheless. Day 1 Went down to GA for opening day, and hunted hard all day long. Heard one gobbler off the property on the roost, and I couldn't get close enough to do any good with him. Never saw a track or any sign anywhere....

I've been using tss for 9 seasons now. I really hesitated to use 8s that first year; just couldn't believe shot that small could be effective... Fond memories! Re: T10s?

Reports have been very good on the 10s this spring. I suspect they will be a very popular size for the small bores. Had one report out of a 20 ga that is crazy, but have no reason to believe he's lying. They did very well last fall for me on wood ducks and crows.... When I first started shooting and...

Assuming viable patterns, 9-1/2s give 1.25" ballistics gel penetration to 60 yds, and the 10s to 51.6 yds. It'll be interesting to get field test reports on them this spring...
