Re: .410 Payloads
Someone reported success using 13/16 oz. in the 370NM load because of increased velocity and reduced pressures. In order to shoot the 13/16 oz load at reduced pressure within SAAMI guidelines, a lower charge of powder was recommended by Hal. This decreased velocity below the speed of sound. The pat...

Re: .410 Payloads
370 grains is the biggest payload in any of the recipes. This equates to 27/32 of an ounce. However, I prefer the 13/16 ounce payload because of the addition of mylar. Just like it in the recipe because of the extra barrel protection. Also with straight 9s, my 870 .410 bore averages 145 in the 10 an...

Re: Mossberg 500 .410 bore Dia.
I have come to the conclusion it all depends on what day the gun was built.....HaHa! There is definitely variation in the fixed choke system, regardless of manufacturer. My local gunsmith has a Mossberg model 500 .410 and his measured .389 if I remember correctly. This will put this into perspective...

Re: Mossberg 500 .410 bore Dia.
I'm pretty sure Mossberg cuts their barrels at a true .410. I read somewhere where that was measured to be what they were, can't remember right off though.
I know Remingtons nominal bore is actually .415, but I am 99 percent sure Mossberg is .410.

Re: Gettin my butt kicked
Don't feel bad.......it has been tough here in southern VA this week too. All the birds seem to be henned up really bad, little to no gobbling, and the wind has been terrible some days. Makes for some tough hunting.......I have a particular field they frequent, just waiting for the hens to drag him ...

Re: Rem 870 20/28 ga
They are built on the same frame.......however, you cannot just swap a 28 gauge barrel onto a 20 gauge receiver and have a 28 gauge gun. There are other things that are specific to the 20 gauge as well. Bolt assembly is different, receiver cutout is different, forend, magazine tube diameter, etc.......

Re: Tight Magazine Cap- what is your method?
I do 2 clicks which is plenty tight on an Ithaca Model 37 Turkeyslayer (old King Ferry model) and on a Browning BPS. I have never had a POA/POI deviation during the season using this methodology, but have seen a number of scoped guns which I had sighted in before the season get as much as 3"-6...

Re: Tight Magazine Cap- what is your method?
Ditto on the barrel tightening procedure. I use a piece of heavy rubber on the magazine cap and don't remove the barrel until the end of the season, running a bore snake 3 times from the chamber out the barrel after a shot. I don't do a heavy cleaning during the season unless I see plastic streakin...

Re: Tight Magazine Cap- what is your method?
Glad it gave you an idea hoobilly.......it does make it easier to make a witness mark. I actually see lots of people that do not take this into consideration with receiver mounted optics, and it can have an impact on the shot. Also, once I tighten the barrel down and sight in before the season, I cl...

Tight Magazine Cap- what is your method?
Ok guys, this is really just a post to start a good conversation. This will probably especially help someone new to the game. As most of you know, the magazine cap, especially in 870s, can have a huge bearing on repeatable accuracy and patterns with receiver mounted optics since the sight is not att...

Re: My newly remodeled 870 20 gauge
The forend doesn't add any weight at all.......but, the buttstock compared to a shurshot stock adds about a half a pound. Definitely heavier........that can be a deal breaker for some. But, I like it!

Re: 200 count .410
278 is a good number, but I honestly do not think that is at 40 yards. I've loaded and shot TSS 9s in my 870 .410, and got solid 145 to 150 10 inch circles at 40 yards. And I think that is about as good as 9s will do, unless you just have the magic gun. 200 is going to be a stretch consistently. I h...

Re: My newly remodeled 870 20 gauge
I don't think they do anything ambidextrous as far as a shotgun other than just normal style stocks. Nothing like the Remington shurshot platform.
They do offer some ambidextrous options for rifles, just never seen any for shotguns.

Re: My newly remodeled 870 20 gauge
That laminate stock is sharp I really like the Boyd's stocks. They fit me fit well and they are super nice looking as well. Every 870 I have will be wearing one. 20 gauge got the forest camo laminate- green, brown, gray .410 will get the nutmeg laminate- brown and black 28 gauge will get coyote lam...

My newly remodeled 870 20 gauge
Here is my newly remodeled 870 20 gauge setup for gobbler thumping. This gun started life as a 870 youth 20 gauge from Wal-Mart for 307 dollars. List of upgrades- -Boyds Sterling thumbhole and forend in forest camo laminate -Remington 26 inch replacement barrel ( I just am fond of longer barrels, I ...

Pure Gold chokes- Awesome company!
I have been on a search for a turkey choke for my Remington 870 28 gauge for quite some time now. Something that is reasonable in price as well, as most companies want 100 to 125 dollars per choke. I had been searching websites and stumbled onto the Pure Gold website showing that they offered sporti...

Re: Why only Burris FF3 and vortex venom?
Don, My opinion on this is on the 870 youth that is not drilled and tapped, is that I would go with an Aimtech saddle mount. And nothing else.......unless having it drilled and tapped. Go with the Aimtech because they use wider picatinny base cross slots than the B-square and I have seen some Vortex...

Re: Replacement Trigger for an 870 Express Magnum Shotgun
I do this spring replacement in all my 870s. End up usually with a 3 to 3.5 lb trigger pull. And not bad on the wallet either.
