Re: Gunsmith to drill and tap WBY Element?
With turkey season in the SE less than a month away in FL, this is SHTF time for fast return from smiths dedicated to turkey gun work. I expect within the next week or two folks will start looking for TSS and components. The time to start taking care of ammo and gunwork is months ago. Maybe this yea...

Thanks. Rising river water helps, too. Shrinks available habitat. It's now happening in some, but not all waterways. Gil

Re: Winter comes to the South
We're at the tail end of woodcock season and SE Ga. Only positive about the cold is that it will shove the birds here. Season has been spotty because of lack of consistent snotty weather up north until recently. Gil

Re: Red-Dot and shimming
99% of the time, your red dot will adjust far enough to make up for any discrepancies in your POI. Don’t lose any sleep over it. Get your choke right. Mount the red dot and zero it at 10-15 yards with a dove load. Move out to 40 and shoot your turkey load. Make necessary adjustments but it should b...

Re: Cz Bobwhite reviews
I never patterned the gun and was only interested in smaller shot sizes for quail and woodcock--never shot 6s. The first generation gun was 2.75". Dunno about the current model. There are 2.75" 1 oz. loads in 28 ga. Gil

I have shot 3, 4, 6 and 8. At traditional turkey ranges, all work fine for turkeys. At 40 yards, 8 moa dot covers 3.2" ; 6 moa, 2.4": 4 moa, 1.6" and 3 moa, 1.2" Gil

Re: Cz Bobwhite reviews
The CZ Bobwhite 28 ga. is a better balanced gun than the 20 ga. model. I shot one for quail and woodcock until last year when I gave it to the grandson of a longtime friend. It is an excellent gun weighing just over 5.25 lbs. It has a scaled action for 28 ga. and isn't just a pair of 28 ga. barrels ...

Re: Newbie question on turkey call value
That ad should reach more eyes than any other place on the internet. The value is what two folks wanting it and one more than the other is willing to pay for it. It is a machine made call probably assembled by someone who worked for him. Custom makers didn't use blister packs to sell their calls. I ...

Rarely see the red-legged blacks in the marsh, but mottled ducks are fairly common on the Ga. coast and bear close resemblance to blacks. Gil

Re: Garmin chrono
I'm a fan of Garmin, most of the time. I've been using the dog tracking system, the Astro 320 for over 12 years. Only beef has been that the replacement battery for the DC40 collar is out of print. After 12 years of use, I've retired the system this month. My American Britts' necks were long enough ...

I haven't been in over 30 years. My buddies and I had annual trips starting in the late 70's to fish the area in the fall after the tourists went home. Back then, the streets of West Yellowstone were unpaved. Gil

Re: So ... ANOTHER old SXS
I wouldn't shoot a load of TSs without knowing pressures of TSS or without measuring wall thickness which requires a special type tool. Many of the TSS loads I am familiar with run up to the SAAMI limits and these old guns shouldn't shoot anything but low pressure loads. Is the gun Damascus barreled...

Your uncle reminds me of the men I knew of an older generation during the time of quail plenty. One man always kept 6 pointers. Two pups, two young and two old dogs. Always had the age rotation in play. His son is a great friend who told me his dad grew up pre WWII and guided at a local resort and d...

Re: Another Old SxS
Over the years folks have shifted from the notion that Damascus barrels are "unsafe" provided no deep pitting or evidence of extreme honing to remove old pits. Minimum wall thickness is another consideration. Old proof marks indicate original bore diameter which when now measured will tell...

The old Brinkman style works great. A late friend gave me this tip for wild turkey. Early evening day before meal, fill up charcoal pan with a bag of charcoal, once the flames die from the starter fluid, add wood chunks, put the water pan on, filled, whole wild turkey (no stuffing) on the grill abov...

I wouldn't buy flip-flops from them. I had snake boots and 8" boots custom made after being measured by the owner. The 8" boots are fine; I couldn't get into the snake boots. Gil
