There's also a Mt. Pisgah in Oregon and NC. But I suppose there is only one with a Chief Wetona. :)

Re: Looking at 28ga shotguns

Webley & Scott (the original company) was a Birmingham, England maker of solid, well-made box lock SxS shotguns. They made a lot of actions and barrels in the white for finishing by other top gun makers throughout England. I have a lightweight 12 gauge box lock in 2.5" weighing 6.25 lbs wit...

Re: Ticks

Back when I first started turkey hunting, we used to dust our boots and pants with sulfur. We'd put it in a sock and slap boots and pants with it. It worked for chiggers and ticks. There are better things now that don't color you yellow. ;) Gil

I shoot the original 1 5/8 oz. 3" shell out of my Super Bantam with a .570 Pure Gold. It shoots between 280 and 305 at 10" with about 250 in the 10-20". gil

Re: MOSSBERG BANTAM 20GA 22"

On second thought, too tight for me at 40. Is the big20 XL 1 7/8 oz.? If so, try the 1 5/8 oz. load. If not, try it without buffer and see if that opens it up more.

Pattern looks good. What are you shooting, what is the diameter of the ring and what is the distance?

I don't know why a competent gunsmith couldn't. When it comes to trigger work, I'm not ready for diy and would not recommend it as an OJT project.

Re: Ticks

I've had chigger bites that look those on the foot photo. The Preventic collar works great on my dog. Unless a tick imbeds it won't leave a mark. I usually can feel them crawling. Collar won't work if it gets wet. The commercial permithin mix lasts almost a whole season with one application and surv...

Cole Gunsmithing is Beretta USA's warranty specialist. A buddy had it done a couple of months ago on his Onyx for $300. I paid a little less a few years ago. Quick turnaround. Gil

Re: Ticks

I've been in the woods the last month looking for mushrooms. I have had one tick so far. I sprayed my clothing, snake boots, shirt and hat with a Permanone solution a month ago and let it dry before wearing. Before going to the woods, it's a dose of Deep Woods off on exposed areas of skin and clothi...

Re: Looking at 28ga shotguns

If I choose a ou for the 28, it will have single trigger. The plan is to set up a cz mallard 20 dual triggers for turkeys. The 28 will be wing shooting most of the time, but will go turkey hunting. I'm not aware of any o/u's that come with double triggers so your selection will be easy. The CZ is a...

It's not that I hate single triggers; I've always liked double triggers better. I replaced the single select of my Beretta 686 Onyx with double triggers.

Re: Looking at 28ga shotguns

Pete, 6 lbs. If I were to use it for turkeys, there are three optic or sight mounting strategies that make the gun versatile for other game. One, the FFIII can be rib mounted as is and removed/replaced seasonally. The barrel's stanchions are machined into the barrel out of a solid billet when it was...

Re: Looking at 28ga shotguns

Pete, I have a CZ Bobwhite and an Ithaca M37 in 28 gauge. I haven't made them into turkey guns. Probably won't. DocHoliday has a very nice CZ Bobwhite 28 that he has made into a turkey gun. Both are good, light guns. The CZ is 5 lbs, 3 oz., and the Ithaca, a flat 6. Gil

The reason you see so many Glocks is for good cause. They are pretty much fool proof. I don't own one, never have, but if I didn't have what I already own, Kahrs and a LCP Ruger, I wouid buy a Glock (and I have had several 1911s.)

Re: 40 or 9

I've yet to meet a person who would volunteer to stand down range and be shot at with any gun. <g> But if forced to choose between a 9 mm and a 40 S&W to be shot at down range, I'd pick the 9 mm, fps the same. Why? 9 mm may expand, but a 40 won't shrink. But here's another man's opinion who pref...
