Re: Weird shock gobble calls

The most glorious glorious shock gobble call I’ve heard is the bugles on Camp Robinson playing Revile at 0600 in the morning as the flag is raised. Heard the bugles go off many mornings, but only once has it elicited a gobble. The time it did was amazing.

Re: Few More Nebraska Pics

I did eat at Helen’s Monday evening. There would have been two Arkansas plates there that night. We ran into another group of Arkansas guys then, but didn’t talk to anyone else at Helen’s that night. The rainbow I saw was Thursday afternoon about 6:20-6:30 p.m. looking to east after storm passed thr...

Re: Heading West? Be aware

Fly into Helena and I'll rent you a 1999 Honda Civic for half the cargo van price. :) I can't guarantee it's performance on gravel roads. I can guarantee that you'll feel like a mouse when you pull up beside a big 4x4 at a stop light and that you have to look up at every drive thru window that you ...

Mine was a double rainbow too, the top one just wasn’t as clear in the picture as yours. I was very close to you, almost right between Chadron and Crawford, but south.

Beretta A303

Carried the A3030 this week in Nebraska for first time. Dad had it as his backup gun during Arkansas and Missouri seasons. I didn’t get a turkey with it, but put this yote down that was slipping in with 2 buddies as I was calling. Couldn’t get on other two. First time to kill a yote while turkey hun...

Re: Few More Nebraska Pics

That’s the same rainbow I shot this pic of! I stood in hail for about 5 minutes on the front side of the storm and then about 20 minutes of rain. I watched my radar and thought the storm was going to split me. A bird gobbled when thunder started rolling in. I moved a half mile across a hilltop to ge...

Re: Chasing Slam this spring

Well, season closed for Dad and I today. It’s been a great time. Covered lots of miles, had many varied experiences across 4 states. Started great with Osceola in March. Got my Arkansas bird in April. Got an education in Oklahoma and Nebraska. Nebraska this week was beautiful. Saw birds every day. H...

Re: Chasing Slam this spring

Jhogue I started out for a single season slam but Florida wasn't good to me. I did get a couple of Rios in N. TX and an Eastern here in E. TX. I head to NE soon and I'm hoping the turkeys there are more vocal than those in FL. Good luck when you go. If I gather any good spots I'll PM you. This is t...

Re: Chasing Slam this spring

If it's not been hunted in awhile, are there a lot of birds there? Or is it like a lot of places? There is no where in Arkansas with a lot of birds. I just wanted to hunts some birds that had seen less pressure for a few years. Definitely did not seem like more density that other places on the inst...

Re: Emergency Communication in areas with no cell service

I think I've had cell service over a lot of the area that you plan to hunt. Nebraska just isn't that rugged. A Spot or similar that allows texting would probably be cheaper than a sat phone but I've not really looked into it. I was trying to figure out how it could be that rugged. The most elevatio...

Just googled "emergency satellite phones to rent". Yes they do - about $30 a week. Didn't click any further.
I’ll check into this. Thank you.

Emergency Communication in areas with no cell service

Planning a trip out west (Currently Nebraska, which is not way out west and not as rugged as the Rockies). I’ve been told these areas are more rugged and dangerous than I am used to. Looking into potential of buying a satellite phone or some other emergency communication device if a fall or somethin...

Congratulations and nice looking country. Does that sign say unexploded ordnance? Wow, that would make some interesting hunting. It does. Unexploded Ordnance is common on military posts. Stuff left over from WWI and WWII all over the country. This particular area was reopened for hunting this year ...

Re: Chasing Slam this spring

Made a trip back out to Oklahoma last weekend. Weather was friendlier, but still didn’t manage to work a bird. I did roost a couple birds the first evening. One was gobbling at 9:30 way into the night. The next morning I found him with about 12-15 hens. They were roosted right on the public, but wen...

I’m using a factory flush improved cylinder in one and modified in other. Both are Yildiz 20 gauge O/U’s. One just seems to shoot a little better with the improved cylinder. I use it for 30 yards and in.

Re: Transport Laws

Thanks for sharing. Just made me realize that I have broken transport laws in two states... These laws make out of state transport pretty tough for some of these states. Looks like you have to transport whole carcasses home. If you kill a bird early in a trip, this could get pretty nasty by the end ...

You inspired me. Last year’s turkey breast from my daughter’s first bird. Bacon wrapped and Wild Turkey Longbranch on ice. Looking good. Please tell me more about Longbranch. Ehh, it’s alright. $40ish bottle of bourbon made by Wild Turkey. Not as much flavor as 101 or my other favor that are all ch...
