Re: Chufa- Is it worth it?
Soiltester, my experience has been that I usually don't make any in places where water will stand in wet weather, so the tubers drowning out seldom happens. I grow them in 2 different counties and have tried them on different types of soil. A well drained sandy loam is best, but they will grow anywh...

Re: Chufa- Is it worth it?
Gil, I've seen old extension service pamphlets on growing chufas for hogs. They are an important crop for human consumption in Spain; I don't understand why they never caught on here. They will grow anywhere that has 120 days without frost. The ground freezing doesn't hurt them once the crop is made...

A healthy stand of young chufas from this past summer: https://i.postimg.cc/65bbj5Wv/IMG-20180724-152954.jpg These plants were pulled up to check tuber production later in the summer. The tops are still green and they are far from mature, but they have already produced a lot of tubers: https://i.pos...

Re: Chufa- Is it worth it?
What do you wanna know about them? I plant about 5 acres a year here in AL, and have been growing them since the late 60s. Nothing else I've found provides as much food for turkeys in the winter. In years when there is a poor acorn crop the chufas can become the primary food source. I don't read the...
Re: FF2 Dots
I thought that mine had gone bad once, but I got someone with good eyes to look through it for me. He described it as a perfectly round dot; my eyes were the problem. Turning it down as low as it will go and I can still see it is the only way I've found to deal with it.

Re: Mounting Vortex Venom on CZ Bobwhite 28 gauge
I have done this with 3 different sxs guns, but I haven't done a Bobwhite. William had to do some machining on the Yildiz to make it sit level, but it was as simple as drilling and tapping the holes on the others.

Dead Coyote
Not the shells, I'm talking about an actual dead coyote. 😀 https://i.postimg.cc/7Z2tCS47/IMG-20181015-175631.jpg I was running the bush hog in the field beside the house when he came out in it and started walking around like he owned the place. He acted like I wasn't even there. I thought if I went ...

Re: Yildiz sight plane
There are a lot of factors involved in the sight picture you get when you shoulder a shotgun. The drop at heel and drop at comb are very important in how the gun fits you, and so is the length of pull. It sounds like your gun also has cast to the stock to help a right handed shooter. You have change...

Re: 20 gauge SxS
Preach, we actually shoot Hevi handloads (#9)in the right (open) barrel. I set these guns to shoot left barrel “on” at 40 yds. The right barrel shoots “on” at 20 yds. I didn’t try to get them to shoot to same POA/POI. Maybe I was lucky and it just worked for me, maybe not. I did right about 15 doub...

Re: 20 gauge SxS
Unfortunately, I don't know of anyone that imports a reasonably priced DT sxs anymore. CZ did for a long time, but I think they only have ST guns that are higher priced now. There are several Turkish firms that make decent guns that would be suitable for turkey hunting, but I don't know of any that ...

My hearing graph is exactly like that guy's; it goes straight down when it hits high sounds. I don't hear anything but the key striking on the first 7 notes on a piano on the right side. I can hear all of the left side normally. I think a lot of my loss is just hereditary; every man in my family on ...

I gave up watching turkey hunting on TV long ago; a guy sitting in a blind watching a decoy seemed to be the tactic on every show. I have watched several of your shows this year and they are genuine turkey hunting. Thanks for taking the time to put them together!

Re: Rivercane Call
I made a short video a few weeks back just to see how the Rivercane call sounded on a recording. I made this one in the house, and I think that was probably a mistake; would sound better outside. I was gonna make a more professional video, but never got around to it, so here is the first try at one:...

Re: ? about getting SBE original D&T
I have a SBE that I bought in 2002. It is not the H&K model, and it was made before they came out with the SBE2. The receiver is some type of alloy, and it doesn't attract a magnet. Jimmy McCollough, a gunsmith in Selma, AL, drilled and tapped it for me and I've taken the mount on and off a doze...

Re: 22 Rifle sports a new tube
Nice looking rig.
I was in the market for a good squirrel rifle about 25 years ago and came down to a 541-T or a 10-22. I decided to go with the 10-22 because of all the accessories available. It has been a good gun, but I soon regretted not going with the Remington. Enjoy!

Re: Mouth Calls vs Friction Calls and Trumpet style calls
I agree that having confidence in whatever call you use is very important. Confidence in a call often equates with skill in the use of that call. A guy that is a "top tier" caller with a particular call or type of call will call turkeys day in or day out just because they know how to make...

Re: Automatic safety on gun
I've got some guns that have them and some that don't. I like it for hunting; I am used to flipping the safety off as I mount the gun so it doesn't slow me down any. For clay shooting, probably better to be manual

Re: Toughest State You Ever Turkey Hunted
A turkey doesn't know what state he is in, and state lines have nothing to do with how easy or hard a turkey might be to kill. My opinion is that it is all about the population on a particular property and the amount of pressure they have on them. Unpressured turkeys in areas that have good populati...

I have no dog in this fight, but in reading this thread I thought of a review I read a couple of weeks ago by Dave in AZ. Re: New to me gun
That oughta be a really interesting project! Got any idea what year it was built? I think that all of those were built to shoot ammo with pressures similar to modern guns; still think I would try the lowest pressure recipe I could find. I have tested 7 different sxs guns with TSS. Here is what I fou...
