Re: GN Sold
Very interesting. I know you hated to deal with the crap that comes from running a Site, so this doesn't surprise me. Shannon would have paid you more You did an excellent job here. Well done buddy.

Re: Lessons from my first turkey season
As our seasons draw to a close I'd like to reflect on my lessons my first year of turkey hunting. 1. Pattern your shotgun. My son missed two birds by the time we realized it may be the gun. I've always shot doves, deer, and ducks with shotguns with good success. Never considered zeroing-in a shotgu...

Dang Jay, how have you been buddy![/quote] Living the life, retired on social security with 2 bad knees and hips. As Mickey Mantle said, "if I knew I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself". I miss Turkey Hunting the most, so I have to live the experience thr...

Re: Gobbler calls
I have used it effectively, like most of the guys. Where the Gobbler Call has been a bonus for me, in getting a few birds is as a locator call. One time hunting land in Nebraska, my son and myself hadn't heard a bird all morning, so before we left to a different area, I pulled out the Gobbler call, ...

Re: Furthest you have seen a bird fly to get to your calls?
Around 150 yards that I killed. I filled the first morning of a 3 day hunt on Private land, so I went scouting to see if I could locate birds, and get to know the land for the following years hunt. Early in the morning I called, and got a Gobbler to answer far in the distance. I walked that way, an...

Re: Prescribed burning
Nothing better than pulling into my favorite honey hole in Kansas, and finding out they burned it 2 days before I got there for the opening. The ground was still smoking, and small trees still burning. Of course every Bird had flew to the Private next door. Man, I was ticked. Control burn right befo...

Re: THE TOUGHEST GOBBLER TO HUNT...
Toughest for me is an area with an extreme population of Hens. Hunted a spot in Nebraska, where the Gobblers bred all day in one location, and never moved. There seemed to be a never ending supply of Hens to service. I didn't have permission to hunt where they roosted and bred, but was close next do...

Re: How many members here had a mentor to get them started?
Spring was fishing for me, many years. Did a little non serious Turkey fall hunting, but on a very limited basis. I was into Duck/Goose and Pheasant hunting, and really loved hunting with my GSP. My gunsmith got me thinking about Spring Turkey, when he couldn't believe as much as I hunted, I wasn't ...

Re: 2016 Canadian Musky Trip
Checked out your album. Wow! What a mess of big pike and muskies. That would be a dream trip all right. Those were most of the bigger ones. We had only one meal of Pike, because we couldn't catch any under 29.5. They were either over 30, which is over the slot to keep or smaller than 27", whic...

2016 Canadian Musky Trip
Had a great time with son and grandson, Jim and Jordan Snell on our annual Musky trip to LOTW in Ontario. We stay in Nestor Falls, and fish Sabaskong Bay for a 2 week trip. We only got in 10 days because of mechanical issues, and running into nasty storms. I fished 4 days of the 10, because of my ba...

Re: That's a wrap for the year and first public land bird
Congrats on a fine Public Tom. Hunting Public can be a very frustrating experience, especially from the pressure of other people. That being said, probably 80 per cent of my kills came on Public. I sure do appreciate Private when I get the opportunity to hunt it.

Amen. Only an idiot would run and gun the areas I hunt, but I see it done. Its run and scare tactics. A gun isn't necessary.Turkinator wrote:At least when they are sitting in a ground blind watching decoys, they aren't running all over every one else! Encounter some that I wish would sit in a blind

I sat in a blind once and vowed never again, even while guiding I would sit outside. With that being said, if a guy only had weekends to hunt let's say and it was gonna rain all weekend and he said he was gonna keep his ass dry in a blind. Or if your on a three day trip and it rains, I can buy it. ...

Re: The NEW turkey hunters
I use whatever is necessary to the area I am hunting. If I am hunting areas lacking cover, which is much of the area I hunted, blinds of some kind were required. Son and myself doubled from ground blinds we quickly set up out of tall grass, like we use to build Duck Hunting, sitting in a plowed fiel...
