Re: Help finding shot in meat?
Our metal detector (full scale, not a pin pointer) can detect a single #9 TSS or #7 HWT at a few inches in all-metal mode. My TSS shot and the HWT shot are weakly magnetic.

You're lucky. It's a draw tag here, and you have to have a TV subscription to Animal Planet.

Awesome! Whirled slam and a bambino on the way. Hard to beat that. Great photography too. That Rio photo across the logs in front of the old barn is my favorite. Congrats!

Yes, both breast side access pockets still have the magnets in addition to the zippers.

I have one purchased within the last six months. The sleeve is the same fabric as the non-mesh rest of the shirt. No added lining material to the sleeve.

Re: #9 penetration ?
Yeah, funny video. Note that even at 70 yards, no lagging shot. They all went through. I'm sticking to the theory that if the shot just penetrated the skin and went no further, they hit something else first. My childhood BB gun could do that much. And if they were that slow, they sure would have dro...

Re: #9 penetration ?
Gauge doesn't matter. I've seen them go all the way through and rest just under the skin on the other side. It looks like poor penetration until you see where the shot came from. Another possibility is that the shot hit something else before hitting the turkey.

Re: Airport travel for a turkey hunter
Technically, by the regulations, you shouldn’t be using TSA locks because you are the only one that is supposed to be able to open the case. But I have heard a few stories of uninformed agents wanting TSA locks. I use a set of four keyed alike Masterlocks. More often than not I am asked for the key ...

Altitude, low humidity, and birds. What a nice set up. I see you keep in touch back home with the Garmin InReach Pro. I carry one with me wherever I go hunting. I'd rather rescuers locate me through it than circling buzzards. ;) Gil Yes, this is my second season with the InReach. Very happy with it...

Another thing to consider is the number of locking points on your gun case. In recent years some airlines have been insisting that if you have four locking points you need four locks. I only use two, but have four keyed alike locks just in case.

Gila turkey camp
My buddy and I got back Saturday evening from our trip to the Gila National Forest in New Mexico. (Gila is pronounced he-luh) This is our third year down there and it's starting to come together for us. The Gila is an enormous place with lots of Merriam's turkeys but many many miles between pockets ...

Re: Keeping Turkey Meat on Ice
Just got back from a multi day turkey camp trip to the Gila National Forest in NM. Killed a bird the first morning. We bring a large cooler completely filled with ice. Cleaned it up and buried the meat in zip lock bags under ice and on top of a layer of ice. Got home and saw your post last night, so...

Thanks. Very nice workmanship on that gun. I really like the finish work on the wood to give it a natural patina.
