Re: 870 20 gauge barrel length....21" or 26"
I started turkey hunting with a Browning A-5, 3", w/ a 32" full barrel and killed a lot of gobblers w/ that gun. My other turkey gun was a 10 gauge Stevens w/ a 36" full barrel which also accounted for quite a few gobblers. I hunted some this year w/ a 20 gauge, Weatherby PA TR-459 w...

Re: 870 20 gauge barrel length....21" or 26"
Every bbl is an individual, so it's hard to say one will out do the other. I'd say in my experience the longer barrels seem to pattern a bit better on average and provide a bit more speed, but on the flip side some short bbls will pattern better than a given bbl a bit longer on the same action. Just...

Re: Relative pattern diameter
1oz of unbuffered 19g 9.5 with a MV of 1080 has the same overall pattern diameter as a EM Hevi #7 1-1/4oz load at 40yds and puts around 120 in the 10in. It is a very very low recoil load. The load was responsible for two toms this season in the 30-35yd range. It's my go to for young kids, but for ol...

Re: Opinions - Cerakote or Dip
Cerakote is tougher than a dip, but it too does scratch. I had my 870 Youth CKd several years back as it was a rust nightmare. It's held up very well and I no longer have rust issues, but after 3 hard seasons I'm starting to see the bead blasted metal appear in high wear areas or some scratched area...

Re: 11-87 super mag ????
I have one with a 23" bbl. Great gun and has never failed. My first mod was to replace the sear spring with a Patriot $10 spring, which lowered the pull down to 3lbs. I then polished the bbl, but it may not need it(just look, it should be mirror shiney with no tooling marks). As far as loads, I...

Re: Replacement stock for 870???
Remington has some of the Sure Shot kits on sale right now in their store. That would be my suggestion, but keep in mind the SS has a much higher comb and must be used with either a red dot or tall open sights.

Re: Red dot zeroing issue
I always aim for the noggin. Always have. You hear all the BS about 1/2 the pattern going over their head yada yada, but I don't buy it. It works and has never let me down. I suppose as an added bonus I get few if any pellets in the breast meat. I can see the lead sled causing an issue due to the di...

This is a bit long winded, but this ole tom deserves it… Man, I thought this guy was going to beat me this year, but I finally got it done on the last day! I wasn’t even going to go, but decided to give it one last try… This guy was hunted nearly every day for 4 weeks straight, there seemed to alway...
