Re: What's your best gobbler to date?
Been carrying a good Rapala digital scale for years so get some pretty accurate weights. 23# (Ohio). Beard 11 and 3/4 (Fl), Spurs just short of 2" (same Fl). Lots of LBL KY birds all seem stuck at around 20# from memory. That's a LBL bird on my avatar picture. Best bird though was probably the ...

Re: Come on April 23rd!!!!
Good luck George and all other Buckeyes. We've lost almost the private land we once hunted in Meigs County and I haven't been up there hunting for at least 5 years. I do miss it. Still shaking my head over the Saturday opener. The once traditional Monday opener helped so much in spreading the pressu...

Old Geezer's Osceolas - No Wall Involved
After my story of dragging ourselves out of a Florida WMA on 3/11 (Hit the Wall post of last week) we got right back at it for Florida's north zone opener on 3/19. For the past 17 years my friend and I have opened the north zone at a private land cypress swamp. We have exclusive access but only on d...

Re: Opportunity to expand spring Turkey Hunting in Hawaii
Good luck. I'm sure HI will never be in my budget but the very few you tubers that have done shows from there make it look interesting. If I'm remembering they are Rios. Based on my Florida experience where the wily Osceola draws in thousands of out of state hunters, with their families and wallets,...

Re: Non Resident license fees
The big NWTF book any member received recently has every state's license fees listed. Some are vague however. Florida, for all it's faults, realizes hunters and their accompanying families spend plenty of $$$$ when chasing the Wiley Osceola. For any state, such as Virginia, to lock out the non-res i...

Re: Non Resident license fees
From memory there was once a proposal for a National Hunting License to cover the federal and BLM lands. It didn't go far but I'm wondering if this rape of the non-resident continues in some states if a court challenge isn't in the future? Haven't bothered to look but I'll bet there is a National Fo...

Re: Non Resident license fees
IMO many high non-res fees are no more than a concession to the resident whiners who don't want any out of staters shooting "their" birds. Biggest gripe I have with this is when there is a large amount of federal land involved. No legitimate reason US residents should be effectively locked...

Hit the Wall
Drew a close to home Florida WMA. Scouted it at least a dozen times but carrying just a bottle of water and binoculars. Walked in over a mile yesterday morning to a pre-selected oak. Called little but knew they were around. This guy aggressively approached my Funky Chicken. Dropped at 16 steps. Now ...

Didn't they do a wad change? Seem to remember one major aftermarket choke manufacturer even had a not recommended warning about the original wad. Probably still plenty of the old stuff around.

Re: Turkey Hunting and Gas Question?
I also have a 99 Honda Civic around that gets 35 mpg. It may turn into a hunting rig along with a tent if prices go too high. Ill have to put better tires on it but there's no way in heck that it's making it down some of the roads I usually drive on if it's raining. We've also been looking at getti...

Re: Turkey Hunting and Gas Question?
I have a trip planned to NT but that's not until 04/20. Hopefully gas prices will be down but I won't be holding my breath. Don't get lost George. I can't find a NT? Seems many are hoping gas will come down in a month or so. Wishful thinking I'm afraid. Really shooting holes in many's plans. We'll ...

Re: Let's talk bowhunting turkeys
Just a IMO from an old guy that started chasing bow deer in the early 1970s and bow hunted fall turkeys in two states when they became targets of opportunity - few, that I've seen, have the skills to consistently bow kill turkeys in anything other than a good blind. Even then most shots are point an...

Been 2000+ acres for sale for several years on the Peace River near Nochee. Jump on it. I'll help you scout it. Btw - a few canoe liverys do trips down the Peace from Arcadia towards Charlotte Harbor. Keep in mind for future visits. Might be fun.

Re: Florida
Easy to get complacent with the snakes when you rarely see one. I've been out in a local WMA several times in the last few weeks and have yet to see any. Not a bad thing. Have seen a few of these however. Are they dangerous?

Re: Best Turkey Chair
My Gobbler Lounger is about worn out so I just ordered the light weight Alps. We'll see but the 4.7# was the selling point. Probably just use some flat black spray on it. My Alps showed up last evening. Like the weight and sturdyness. Will take some serious camo work. That orange is really orange. A...
