Re: Question for TSS shooters/hunters
All but 1 of my birds were well under 40yds. Longest one was 57yds and running straight away made for an easy double opportunity. Archery birds this year were 12yds or less. Most of the shotgun kills were 25yds or less.

Re: Bird numbers
Central mo is definitely down compared to the glory days. Winter flocks seen in the 300-500 bird groups no longer exist. At one time it was easy to shoot 8 longbeards off just 100ac parcels every spring. Rarely had i ever called in a bobcat during that time it was very rare to even see one. Last 20 ...

Re: Those darn Non-Residents
Draw and quota will happen in ks next year for sure. Some of us that traveled before it was "cool" sure did have fun! I'm not a fan of quota hunts but I'm sure it may result in a better quality of a hunt. I wish some of these states wouldn't have reduced thier bag limits. Was fun to kill n...

19 in a year is not many to some that do it the legal way. Now the outlaws i knew of growing up 100+ in a year were common. He's just your average poacher that will get caught. A good turkey hunter i think not, average at best.

Re: Public land scouting
Birds around me tend to break up and move about 2 weeks before season opens. That is the time to really scout and make notes. Otherwise get out and walk the ground to learn lay of the ground. It's always good to have a A,B,C, and D plan of attack. I do this on my private spots too.

How to get more turkeys in the spring? Go to states that thier population is exploding!
Excellent job on the trap line we caught 9 cats in one week out of a 40ac field edge. Coons by the truckbed full. Coyotes just call them in best night was 8.

Re: Overthinking Fall Hunting
I don't shoot hens any time of the year, but thats just me and what I like too kill. I also don't shoot gobblers in the fall where I spring hunt. I don't think taking a hen in the fall off of the landscape will even be noticeable if the harvests are spread out.

In 1978, while driving to Columbia, TN, for the Mule Day festivities, I encountered one of the first road kill raccoons I'd ever seen, a large boar from which I removed the tail and threw the carcass into a ditch. At that time, I had been an avid outdoorsman for about 15 years, and coons were still...
