Re: Federal TSS - Just thinking outloud...
Just get the TSS Federals on sale, with rebate or whatever, buy a bunch and vampire the shells for the TSS shot and reload. With TSS, you probably can't worsen the load from the Federal performance level (whatever it is). The assurance of fresh powder charges and good crimps is reason enough to &quo...

Re: Is the 20 ga 3” round obsolete for turkey hunting?
3-inch 20 gauge hulls are very useful because a hull trimmer can be utilized to remove the skived edge. It is very difficult to find 20 gauge hulls that are NOT already pre-skived. In my experiences with a GAEP 20 OTP roll crimping toolhead, unskived hull plastic produces a much better looking and O...

Re: Browning bps or mossberg 500?
Make sure you realize that a Browning BPS in .410 weighs a flat 7 lbs. If you are getting into the whole .410/TSS fad, this will not be your best choice for a light .410 gauge. A better gun than a Mossturd but admittedly heavier.

Re: Over Choking Tungsten Causing Barrel Damage?
Sloppy, Do you have a good explination as to why the resin works so well for Winchester? Does it keep the lead pellets from deforming? Or does it actually hold the shot column together long enough to make a difference? Seems like it would just shatter, turning into buffer, as soon as it passes thro...

Oh I have no doubt that sloppy knows how to do it. I was joking about the hard candy, but I would like to know how he does it. I am sorry but this is one avenue even the Slopster is going to avoid from posting publically (nor will I provide any information privately). Here's why: the process is not...

Re: Shotgun sights
Whenever anyone gets sick of the multitude of issues you will have with a saddle mount on a shotgun, take the plunge and have the DaMar Shotgun scope mount professionally installed on your turkey shotgun. You will thank me later.

Cut a notch out in the stock and build it up with fiberglass repair kit material. Sand smooth and paint.

Reflex or holographic or red dot sights. <-- take your pick.
Personally, I don't use turkey riflescopes as I never want to be in a position where I could have an issue with head placement behind the ocular.
Of course, your mileage will vary.

Re: Are SumToy Choke Tubes Hardened?
Work hardened from machining: yes. Depending on the steel utilized for the choke, the metal itself could be pre-hardened before it is even machined. Several suitable steels exist for choke tubes but many utilize 17-4 PH stainless steel. PH represents "precipitation hardened." Very few chok...

Nikon Monarchs 3,5, or 7 series! Leupold cannot match its picture clarity in low light. My Monarch 3 with 4-16x42 will make you rethink the whole overpriced Leupold VX-2 or higher claims. Vortex may be another option but I would stay in the Viper HS series for the smaller money you say you can spend...

Re: Federal muzzleloader bullets
I would never doubt the knockdown power of a heavy conical just not sure about 200 - 300 yard performance and they kick like a mule! They don't kick like a mule at all! When they do, you loaded it too fast. When the bullet is 500+ grains, speed is not necessary. You DO have to know you trajectory a...
