Clover...but we cleared some think areas that allowed for new growth. I think that helped the most.redarrow wrote:Looks promising. What did you plant?

Site improvement is paying off
Last year this property was completely extinct of turkey activity. A little work this summer, with a few food plots and clearing, looks to have paid off. A friend of mine that deer hunts the property got this pic of hens and said there is another flock of about 20 gobblers. Spring just can't get her...

I would suggest finding a young kid and let them take her out. They will care less if she is skinny and your problem will be gone.

Re: May I Vent?
This discussion about setting up young hunters for success reminded me of the very first hunt Leah went on with a gun. It was an afternoon hunt of the juvenile weekend. She was so excited. These jakes appeared out of no where from our right (leah was sitting on my left) and we did not have a blind. ...

I have a 4.5 year old daughter that will be legally old enough to turkey hunt in my state the Spring of 14'. We will see if she is ready then. Like you, Tim, I hope to encourage a hunting partner. However, I think you could have had a hunting partner with or without TSS. Many kids learned to love o...

Re: May I Vent?
I'm the one that told that cat on the other site to use something other than lead shells. His reasoning was that he already had bought a BUNCH of 2 3/4 lead shells and wanted to use those first. I just don't get it. You spend $250-$800 on a gun, $25-$60 on a choke, but you won't spend $15 on some qu...

My whole family watched every episode last season. Not too many shows you can all share as a family left. We will be tuning in from middle TN.

Re: ? For you fall turkey hunters...
Here is middle TN, a population problem is an understatement. We got turkeys running out our sub-divisions. TN implemented a fall season a few years ago....why...because it's just not going to hurt our population. We can harvest 6 either sex birds in the fall and 4 gobblers in spring. This does vary...

Re: how often do you kill one standing up?
Hal,
I had to shoot at one off-hand while standing this year at 20 steps. In my rush to get the shot off, I MISSED CLEANLY! So...I prefer NOT to do that, especially knowing that my pattern is pretty small at that distance. After 25 years of turkey hunting, that was my first time.
