Re: I quit
I own it and it’s about 500 acres. I also have a long term lease on about 900 acres.

I quit
Turkey population where I hunt has become so low I am putting the gun up. Going to concentrate on improving what I can. Probably just working for the neighbors but I can’t in good conscious continue to be part of the problem. So far I have planted 60 acres of durana clover. I’m going to burn some pi...

Re: Decline of Wild Turkey Populations
Very good video on YouTube. One thing that I asked about but didn’t get a reply was who all is funding the research? I saw dr chamberlain wearing a nwtf shirt which makes me think they may be funding a portion of his research. Nwtf always talks about loss of habitat being the main problem and not ov...

Elevated stand illegall
Last I looked hunting turkeys from elevated stand was illegal in Alabama but hunting from a ground blind isn’t. What’s the point of elevated blind being illegal?

I have read where if you harvest a few coyotes in an area it actually encourages the alpha female to have more in her next litter.

Re: Decline of Wild Turkey Populations
Is invasive honey suckle the same thing as regular honeysuckle? We often promote honey suckle growth in my area as nutritious deer food.

Re: Standing Rib Roast & Potato Wedges
I got one of those digital thermometers for cooking roast especially rib roast since I don’t want to screw up such a good piece of meat. Thing works perfect. Can cook meat on the grill outside and monitor it in the house as well.

Re: Sit here and shut up
It was a new development. The outfitter didn’t mention the change in hunting style until after friend had arrived. 16 hour drive one way.

Sit here and shut up
I have several friends who have paid to go on hunts lately. Seems the new trend amongst outfitters is to make hunter sit in a blind beside a feeder and not call. One friend said he was told not to use his caller or his jake decoy. He packed up his stuff and left. Would y’all want to hunt like that ?...

Re: barrel length
I prefer a 28-30 inch barrel because the muzzle blast isn’t as loud and I don’t use the scopes or red dots so the more distance I can can get between my eye and the bead the more accurate I shoot. I have found that most long barrel guns seem to pattern better and have slightly better velocity from w...

Re: Decline of Wild Turkey Populations
I can remember in my youth seeing flocks of turkeys feeding in hardwoods. Might be 60- 70 hens with jakes in a group. Hardwoods and the groups are gone now. Couple that with over harvest of the remaining population and it’s going to even to get worse. If the habitat doesn’t support high levels of ha...

Re: Decline of Wild Turkey Populations
With the country headed more and more towards socialism there should be plenty of public land before long. The socialist believe that everyone should own the land not a individual and that only the elite should make decisions cause the mass public is to stupid and must be protected like little child...

Re: Decline of Wild Turkey Populations
I think it is largely due to 9’s , 8’s , 4’s and 5’s. Wild turkeys can and do live well in city type habitats as long as there are some houses to roost on , abundant bird feeders , a few shrubs to nest in and no hunting. I have a bass lake next to a county road that has been overpopulated with bass ...

Re: Georgia season changes
I see on YouTube where the wild turkey populations in many retirement villages is becoming a problem and no I am not making fun of the ol folks. Seems that bird feeders, few shrubs and plenty of houses for roosting make excellent habitat. For all you habitat folks this may be the answer. We need mor...

Re: Georgia season changes
I have hunted many ranches in south Texas with unbelievable turkey numbers. They have numerous wild hogs , coyotes, and even coons. The thing that I see time and time again is that they had very very few turkey hunters and lots of deer feeders.

Re: Georgia season changes
I agree more regulations are bothersome. That is why I think the Alabama limit should be 3. Try that for 2 years and see what if anything changes. I also think we need much more tracking data on turkeys and banding. Might not hurt to have a chat with some folks that raise turkeys for a living. Could...

Re: Georgia season changes
Last season was an anomaly with business closings and folks working from home. The public woods were flooded with hunters and it's no wonder the reported kill was higher in Alabama. Limit reductions are the result of field research and not political pressure from legislators as was the movement to ...

Re: Georgia season changes
How far do y’all think turkeys travel? Do you think that when you sit down to call to a turkey that turkey has never had anyone call to him or do you think someone else has called to him before? Just curious to hear opinions. I have hunted large ranches in Texas where you could literally drive withi...

Not going to make me mad either. I enjoyed reading about your turkey management. I have noticed much more people write about how to kill a turkey than how to grow them. Me included.

Re: Georgia season changes
Something has to be done. The population is nowhere near what it was 15-20yrs ago. The legal Alabama harvest was up 53% last season over the season before. That doesn't sound like we have a declining population, and yet they went with more restrictions anyway. I am going turkey hunting, but I will ...
