Re: forcing cone question?

Sleeved choke I should of specified. I have seen some guns where folks would sleeve the whole barrel but sleeved choke is what I meant.

Re: forcing cone question?

With fixed chokes of old days if you wanted xtra full choke and they didn’t make a barrel with that option you could send barrel off to a barrel man and he would bore out the choke and slide a smaller diameter choke into the barrel. There was much magic and skill involved

Re: forcing cone question?

I dropped big money on a Winchester 1300 12 gauge bbl about 20 years ago to have forcing cone lengthened, backbored, chopped to 21", rifle sights installed and sleeve choked to .660 for lead loads to guy in PA, think it was Mark Bansner? It improved it some but shot nothing like TSS does out o...

If it were me I would try it like it was first. Guess I am kinda old fashioned though. I see some guns that look more suited to urban assault than turkey hunting but whatever suits you.

If you do file on it let us know how it works. I wouldn’t hunt with a gun that shot like that until I fixed it.

Re: Are turkeys going the way of the quail

I know for me gobbling activity isn’t the only way I gather information on how many turkeys are in an area. I look for tracks in the mud holes or tracks on soft dirt, dust bowls , feathers , strut marks , droppings , scratching areas and sightings. I don’t think some of the inexperienced hunters eve...

Re: Are turkeys going the way of the quail

I don’t want to just preach doom and gloom but I honestly think there is a serious problem developing in many areas and that we are not recognizing it fast enough. I love to hunt them but I also want them to be here for future hunters and I don’t want to put my turkey gun in the cabinet next to my g...

Re: Are turkeys going the way of the quail

What reloader said is happening here in Alabama as well. I would also mention that there are lot of hunters who say there turkeys just aren’t gobbling or are gobbling some mornings and not on others. My experience suggests that is the beginning of the decline. Also , don’t fall into the trap of thin...

Re: Are turkeys going the way of the quail

We lost our quail in Ohio in the late 70s. We lost our grouse sometime in the late 90s. Our turkey population seems to be able to adapt to conditions our quail and grouse couldn't. I heard and saw less birds in Alabama this year than all the years I've hunted there. May have just been a couple bad ...

Are turkeys going the way of the quail

I remember years ago hearing old men talk about how many quail there were. I haven’t jumped a wild covey in 15 years. Never did really get a for sure answer of what happened to them. With the decline in turkey populations in many areas I wonder if the same will happen to turkeys?

Re: Turkey populations in your area

I think the coyote argument is b.s yeah they get lucky sometimes, but I've watched multiple multiple altercations in the field and most times turkey goes away unscathed. It is overall BS. Coyotes are not made to successfully hunt turkeys. When rushing a flock and the turkey takes to the air they do...
