Re: Winchester Longbeard XR
Armchair turkey ballistic junkies have generally come to accept 1.25" penetration in ballistic gel to be the minimum required to cleanly kill turkeys. Penetration in ballistic gel is a much more useful metric than foot-pounds of energy because it is accurate across all different pellet material...

Re: Lightweight hunting boots
For deer hunting, I prefer to wear scent containing boots. For early bow season in NC, I wear cheap Lacrosse rubber boots. As temps cool, I switch to a pair of Muck Wetland boots. They are relatively lightweight and comfortable to walk in (although I wouldn't wear them upland bird hunting) and keep ...

Re: O/U Point of Convergence
It is almost universally true that with heavy loads, a side by side will shoot the right barrel right of POA and left barrel left of POA. Similarly it is almost universally true that with heavy loads, an O/U will shoot the bottom barrel below POA and the top barrel above POA. Duurmeehr is correct th...

Re: 111 yard coyote HW15 BB
I misspoke on the drop for HW15 BB @ 110 yds. It is 30", not 36" (misread as HS instead of HW15) with 3.97" penetration (1300 fps).
Lead 3Buck is almost identical with 29.43" of drop and 4.1" penetration (1300 fps).

KPY predicts 36" of drop at that distance when started at 1300 fps.

Talk about your golden BB. Can't imagine there was much pattern integrity at that distance, and the drop would have been considerable. Impressive performance and good riddance!

Re: HSHDT 20ga
Not to be argumentative in any way, but why do you think speed kills? I see no reason to increase the speed of TSS shells to 1300 fps unless I was trying to increase penetration beyond what is required for turkeys, e.g. using 9s to kill geese, coyotes, etc. Since TSS 9s have sufficient penetration t...

Re: Air Rifles.
I have a Beeman R7. It is actually made by Weihrauch in Germany. It is a .177 spring-piston design. They are not cheap but are supremely accurate. I remember when I bought it, reading that 25' groups measure 0.12 CTC, and it delivers. From a good rest with good pellets, it will shoot cloverleafs at ...

Re: old eyes
Sumtoy makes a rib mount if your rib is thick/strong enough to d/t. The rib on my Beretta 686UL O/U is really thin, so I chose to go with a B-Square cantilever rib mount that attaches to the rib via small plates that fit between rib and barrel and are secured with small machine screws.

Re: OU shooters, single or double trigger?
I started out with lead shot and cylinder choke in an effort to maximize close range pattern spread (after a 10 yd miss with my 11-87). The cylinder choke with lead 7.5s did have a very forgiving pattern in close but ran out of pattern density at 20 yds. That left an awfully big gap between that bar...

Re: Barrel Shortening | CZ Mallard
Your gun, your dime, but I wouldn't even think about it. My Beretta O/Us have 28" barrels and I have never found that length to be a problem (but then, they are not dedicated turkey guns either). But an O/U with 28" barrels is about the same length as a repeater with 24" barrels, and ...

Re: Shooting the Bead
As important if not more important than Poi vs POA is age. At 58, there will be no more bead shooting for me with TSS. Once you start having trouble focusing on the bead (or F/O sights) and the turkey at the same time, it is time for a red dot or scope. I much prefer the red dot. Takes old eyes out ...

12 ga. Benelli Mobil Chokes with TSS
Going to try to help my buddy tighten up his Benelli SBE. It uses Mobil chokes. Currently using a factory .675 that is non-ported without any wad catchers. With a 1.75 oz handload of 8.5s it did an uninspiring 189/10 (553 pellets in load). Anybody have experience with a choke that works well with th...

Re: Jebs Turkey vs Waterfowl Chokes?
William at Sumtoy is the man to ask, but yes, I believe there is a difference in the internals - perhaps length of parallel section and or difference in wad stoppers. I tried a ST .665 and .680 turkey pattern in my Beretta and patterns were ok, but when William sent me a .675 waterfowl choke, patter...
