Re: Weird shock gobble calls
Mark Drury sold a lot of silent dog whistles as shock devices back in the day. They worked great, only problem was the gobble was silent, too. Gil

Re: Hearing protection
So far my hearing is binaural. I took a 25 year hiatus from wingshooting but stayed with turkeys which helped. Others who didn't suffer the loss in at least one hear. I always have patterned done with muffs and plugs. Even with plugs and muffs hearing can be damaged by gunshot as the sound is still ...

Re: How you all covering your red dots in the rain?
I had a military grade Trijicon Reflex powered by a tritium lamp. It's design featured all weather work without the need for rain covers in that the emitter was positioned and shaped so that rain wouldn't affect it. The downside was that the unit was large and heavy. Gil

Re: How you all covering your red dots in the rain?
A buddy didn't realize what a raindrop will do to the sight picture if the emitter is wet and paid the price with a miss. A 3 MOA dot will look like lava lamp in the screen if a drop of water hits it. Gil

Re: How you all covering your red dots in the rain?
The cover that comes with the Fast Fire series does a good job and the dot is visible through the cover and can be left on in the rain with both dot and target visible provided it doesn't fog. Gil

Burris has been in business quite a while. I don't know about Vortex. Burris offers a lifetime warranty on their product without regard to who bought it and no proof of purchase required. Perhaps Vortex has followed suit. Gil

Doc, I wish that was the issue--they were flat footed when I shot with a good hold and I thought, well-aimed. They disagreed. However, I'll try and see if that helps. Gil

Re: 12 vs 20 - 16?
Here are my 4, ready to go Yildiz single-shots. The top two are the .410 at 3.25 lbs. I prefer the red dot, having missed with the Skinner peep. If one is content to shoot off the bead, then the Skinner is for you. I had to have a smith make the collar to sit on the barrel at the muzzle end as the m...

Re: 12 vs 20 - 16?
Welcome on your first post. Two points were made in your OP. 1)you are going to shoot commercial loads. 2)you want lighter weight in a gun. In commercial loads of TSS, someone will correct me if I'm wrong, the lightest payload available in 20 ga. is 1 3/8 oz. At least one "boutique" loader...

Congratulations!!!I’ve got the same gun but just haven’t got around to hunting with it yet. Did you have choke tubes installed in it? Mine just is full from the maker I am just shooting the full from the factory. Plenty good pattern at 40 yards from factory full. I had 300 in the 20" and just ...

Anyone other than alpha burnt experience with this gun? I've reached out to him, but I don't believe he checks in often. Is the rail, plastic or metal? I've seen a YT review that says plastic, but I'd rather hear something here. How is the rail attached? Weld, screwed, etc.? The rail system seems on...

Re: .410 or 20 for kids?
I have a different slant on buying a gun that can be used to hunt turkeys and small game. Most here have a purpose built turkey gun. Many of us rely on red dots for vision issues or curing poa vs poi in guns. I wouldn't go through the trouble of sighting in a red dot with TSS only to remove it at se...

Re: Pop, Pop, Boom.
Ken, I made the wingbone call close to 40 years ago. I primarily use it as a locator while trolling. The rivercane calls are for business as their volume is lower and tone softer than the wingbone or trumpets--at least in my hands. One has to know one's state law regarding possession of turtle parts...

Pop, Pop, Boom.
This season, my first two birds fell to the “pop” of my Yildiz single-shot TK36 .410 shooting brass loaded with 13/16 oz. of TSS #9.5. A friend and I have through patterning and experience noted that this old subsonic load from Hal Abbott patterns better than his faster, heavier loads in our guns, b...

Spray up. These aren't your grandfather's ticks anymore. A friend almost died after a tick bite spending a week in the hospital. BIL developed Lymes after working on a remote barrier island off the coast years ago. He was constantly dealing with ticks. Gil

After skinning the breast out, I look for shot holes. If there are some visible, I lay the breast in this jerky board, which has two depths. with the small board, I pressure downwards and use the knife to run through the breast with the knife slicing along the top of the jerky board and repeat as ma...

Re: Replacing battery on FFIII @#$%
A Duracell 1632 is the same size as any other 1632. The OG threads attached to Hognutz post shows the confusion arising when one doesn't realize that the battery cover doesn't appear to be level after fully screwing it down. The muzzle side of the lid is flush while the stock side of the lid isn't; ...

Re: Replacing battery on FFIII @#$%
Earlier version required removal of sight to change battery. FFIII remains in place and battery is removed from the top of the unit, not the bottom as in previous versions. Why Duracell? Longer shelf life--10 years (claimed). I bought a cheap pack off Amazon and carried a spare in my pack. Billy's b...

Replacing battery on FFIII @#$%
Here's the easy way to do it. Use the widest flat tipped screwdriver that will fit into the slot. Problem with smaller blades is that the lid tips in the slot's direction, side to side, preventing thread full engagement. Don't even think of using the screwdriver that comes with the red dot. Use it f...
