Re: Ticks in the truck

Permethrin is the REAL DEAL! I have an allergic reaction to whatever it is ticks inject into you when they bite to keep the blood flowing. Tick bites for me are NASTY and can take months to heal and can get infected and all kinds of bad stuff. Permethrin is really that good and was a complete game c...

Re: Hunting turkeys in snowy conditions.

Turkeys do what turkeys do ...... They may sit in the tree a bit longer but if its not heavy snow they will be out feeding and moving around as usual. Gobblers will follow the hens as usual for this time of year. Just make sure your kiddo's are dressed for it and maybe a thermos of hot chocolate mig...

Always a list. I do what I can. LOL! But after 30+ years my wife has me figured out. Other than emergencies and mowing grass, not much gets done during hunting seasons. I am not sure she is ok with it ...... maybe she just gave up!

Re: public land Osceolas

Thanks to all! joey46 nailed it. I heard the softest, lowest gobble I have ever heard in alot of years of hunting this trip. I was REALLY close. I could see the bird and I barely heard it. Crazy! It was like it was almost afraid to gobble. I didn't kill him either. I was probably less than 50 yards ...

public land Osceolas

Hit a couple of different WMA's and got real lucky. Birds not gobbling great but slipping in silent like. Shots at 35 yards or less. Perfect for my little 20ga PA 459! Both birds killed were 19+ lbs, 1"-1 1/4" spurs, 8.5-9" beards. The check lady recorded one as 1 1/2" for both s...

as at Unicoi a few years back. A callmaker friend of mine had a Cost short box (can't remember the wood) that he wanted to sell. The call was far from a pristine collector call. it had been used and hunted with obviously its whole life. At any rate the callmaker asked me if I was interested so I pl...

Re: Muzzleloader 12 gauge

Yes you can shoot TSS in muzzle loading shootguns. Including the TK2000. There are loads out there for that purpose. TK2000 is a beast. The 3.5" mag of the 12 ga. blackpowder world if you load it up. It was designed to shoot plastic shot cups as well. Knight sold them specifically for the gun f...

Re: Calling strategy

I am defintetly in the get alittle closer crowd. Especially if he is giving me the occasional gobble so I know about where he is. If he doesn't get more interested, I will often hit him with a good blast of hard and loud stuff telling him to get over here NOW! Then just be quiet, chill awhile and se...

Re: Materials other than wood or plastic for pots?

Composite materials such as trex decking makes a great pot call. Very stable and basically weatherproof. Micarta would make a great pot also if you wanted to deal with it. Delrin / acetal / HDPE is another plastic like material that turns like butter but its messy. Darn strings everywhere.

Another fan of the Gobbler lounger for longer sits. But I use a foam but pad alot too. I have been looking for one of these buckwing seats for awhile now. 280 to 300. Dropped down to 200-220ish at 50. FYI rail is aluminum so I drilled and tapped for red dot myself. Camo tape on forearm and shiny receiver. Not pretty but good to go. Birds that died didn't seem to care.

Re: Over under.

I shoot an IC 555 with handloaded TSS #9 in the long range (bottom) barrel. For the top barrel a Carlsons modified shooting standard lead in #5 or #6. At 30 yards and in, the lead patterns just fine. Probably could do #7 lead or something and be fine as well at the close yards. From what I patterned...

Re: Seek One Maryland sika hunt

Had a good friend go there and hunt them with crossbow 2 years ago. He used a local outfitter. He did kill one and said it was a fun hunt. Not sure of other details. I think a big plus was that it was in January. After most other hunting seasons for hooved type game were over.

Re: Tristar upland hunter NWTF camo

I have a standard Tristar hunter, not the camo NWTF version. Mine is dedicated turkey gun so cant comment on other uses. I put an IC 555 in bottom barrel (TSS) and a Carlsons Light modified or modified in the top (Lead only). Venom red dot sight. Its a neat little gun, easy to carry and handles and ...
