A fishing line hooked up to a pretty boy and a blind in someone's backyard?
Nah. No interest whatsoever.

In case someone drops out and puts a team in a bind, I'll throw my hat in the ring as a backup.

well, it's turkey season again...
With the FL south zone youth hunt already opened, I guess it's now official. Turkey season is open, at least south of us. some of us may be jumping in the car and driving south any day now. The fever is burning. With road trips and the such planned, many of us are going to put forth a little extra e...

Re: Box call
I carry a box and a long box. Those are primarily for locating and long range work. When a bird gets close, it's all mouth call 'cause my hands are on my gun and I like to keep still. I've called birds all the way in with a box call before, particularly when that's the only thing they really wanted ...

I practice on calls I can't play well all winter, so that come springtime, when I use the ones I like, I sound like a maestro to myself.

Re: PRICE ?
It's interesting how osceolas are the ONLY subspecies where no hybridization is recognized officially, even though the osceola line was originally drawn to show where "pure" osceolas start to the south of it and hybridization starts above it. $$ is why. And those farther south like to try ...

The last couple osceolas I killed cost me about $300, including everything. But I hunted public land and camped out.

Whichever one takes a liking to me and comes in first. After I pick up the dead turkey, I'll check out his spurs.

Most of the time a partner hinders me. But there has been at least one bird that I killed, that had I not had a partner, he would have lived to gobble the next morning.

... I'd rather be hunting alone. Mike I'm getting bad lately about wanting to hunt alone all the time. I seem to avoid anybody going with me, especially if they are are an experienced turkey hunter. Re: Thrill
It depends on who it is I'm calling for. Each of my kids' first turkeys was a huge thrill. And it is calling for a close friend's first bird also. It all depends on the situation.

Re: Sunday hunting hits dead end in house
I agree with you Mike. Since we have to pay to play, so should they. Or either give us exclusive rights to the gamelands during all hunting seasons. But the problem with that is, they may call our bluff, and we may end up with having to vacate on more days of the week than we are already stuck with.

Re: Sunday hunting hits dead end in house
And, if they can close those public lands for us hunters on one day per week, why not for 2, 3, or more days???? Doesn't that sound a little preposterous, Hal? Public lands are just that....PUBLIC.....and need to be SHARED BY ALL. We hunters share it with other users, and they share it with us. Sel...

Re: Sunday hunting hits dead end in house
Sooooo,...Hal,....your reasoning here is that it is alright to close the woods to hunters (and I am talking about public lands...private property is another matter altogether) so that "horse riders, bikers, hikers", etc. will not have to "tolerate" hunters,...and you base that o...

Re: Sunday hunting hits dead end in house
It's still a bogus, arbitrary rule, with no sound management strategy behind it, and it should be abolished for a plethora of reasons. Well, that brings up another argument. :D There are reasons it has stayed this long, whether we hunters like the reasons or see eye to eye with them or not. I've be...
