Re: Tell me about your pants.
Wrangler camo jeans. Soft and quiet once broken in. Very comfortable. Warm enuff if not wet. I usually buy waist size 1" bigger for layering or extra movement room. Plus, where I live, they are stylish and acceptable hunting season or not! Some versions have reinforced knees too. https://www.ga...

Re: turkey seat butt hurt
Another lounger fan here. For any kind of extended sit they just can't be beat. I have the Cabelas gobbler lounger and a couple Walmart models ($9 each) and really don't see much difference performance. I modified mine with a headrest so I can sleep easier! LOL! Best off the ground seat I have ever ...

Re: DIY Checklist
If your going with family find a good camp area before you go that gives them activities / things to do. They happy, you happy. There are decent areas in both states that have good hunting, camping and fishing. You didn't say public or private but there are good online sources for maps and info. Do ...

Heaviest eastern from east TN. 26 lbs
Lightest Osceola 13lbs 7 oz if I remember right.

Re: Use Enough Gun
Deader than TSS dead is getting pretty darn dead. Is that like a zombie dead? THAT'S kinda scary if I think about it. I started with the 20 purely because it was a lot lighter to carry and I am getting old. But going back, I toted some big 12's and patterned every "new" turkey load that ca...

Re: 20 ga PA-459 choke recommendations
Thanks for the input. I have been leaning toward the IC .555 and the Sumtoy .562. Seems they are consistently good in about everything. 315ish and a good even 20" would be great. Hard to find an IC right now. Seems its "seasonal". I also carry a more open modified choke with me and wh...

20 ga PA-459 choke recommendations
Set up a Weatherby PA-459 Tactical in 20ga for turkey hunting last year. It has the 18 inch barrel. Using Carlson .555 and / or .575 chokes so far. Vortex venom site. Shooting both handload TSS #9 and Federal TSS #9. Both shoot decent patterns (250 - 280's with .555) with either choke and killed sev...

Re: This years mouth calls
Ok, here goes my shameless promotion. I have struggled with upper palate deformity and getting mouth calls that actually work my entire hunting career. I met Del at Unicoi a couple of years ago and he really fixed me up. I won't use anything else anymore and it used to be 1 of 10 calls would work. N...

Re: Can't Believe!
Seems like to me you skipped a few gauges in your strange journey. Could have let yourself down a wee bit easier and had more guns to retire I am thinking. I have been talking to an old turkey hunter that lives near me. He lives over towards your kinfolk Ronnie. He killed a 23lb bird with 1 3/8 spur...

Re: Slate recommendations
Bunch of folks making solid slate calls. Add Lonnie Sneed, Darrin Dawkins and Ed Jenkins to the above list. But maybe your best bet would be go to a sports show or something and just run a bunch of em. That way you can hear them and find what you want. No replacement for matching up with the "t...

Brazilian Rosewood is a rare one. Its still out there but imports have been banned for years. So all wood should be certified pre ban. Kinda like Ivory. And on top of that is a Buice! Great trumpet!

Re: Cut/re-thread barrel cost?
I paid abit over $100 to have my 20 cut down and threaded. I chose to have it done by a professional fulltime gunsmith tho. I think there are those out there who can beat that price. But I am thinking that for $50 for the right gun and add a spacer for the LOP might be the lowest cost option. HINT: ...

I hear ya and live the life with ya! Wife even dresses up the deer mounts like Rudolph and crew. On the other hand she's not into jewelry and some of the other bottomless pit things.
Dress up like a (horny) elf and see how it works out!"happy fiancee gets you in their pantzes"

Re: Middle TN Turkey Hunting
There is some quality public land in the area. Might depend on how you hunt. Move or sit still and wait em out. Find an area that suits your style. Nothing beats boots on the ground. If you want to kill turkeys you have to hunt in area THAT HAS TURKEYS. LOL!

Hunted Choccolocco year before last. Had birds but wasn't impressed. You are also on the edge/ near the Talledega NF which is also public hunting and HUGE, 400,000 acres. Ended up spending more time hunting there and had some good hunts. Do some research on the NF. You might find it more to your lik...
