Re: The NEW turkey hunters
I really think if more people would try hunting without a blind and get better at setting up / sitting still / repositioning / calling / woodsmanship, they would leave the blind and decoys at home more often than not. All dead turkeys look the same and it is how the deal went down that we remember m...

Re: What is the best .410 gun to use for tss?
You might be surprised how well it patterns at 40 yards. See what it can do at 40. Your pattern at 30 is more than enough. The pattern is very tight and you and the gun would benefit with adjustable sights or red dot. Your POI/POA as is would require unwieldy Kentucky windage in the heat of battle....

Re: What is the best .410 gun to use for tss?
I bought the Yildiz $129 single shot at Academy last fall and started fooling around with it a couple of weeks ago. Don't care much to hunt with it out to 40 yards so I patterned it at 30 and stopped there. How does 208 in the 10 ring at 30 yards sound? Might put some sights on it to get POI in line...

Re: Montana's 2016 Regs
Sorry for creating the confusion I just don't associate Montana with turkeys but instead only with big game. The big game nonresident license applications are due in less than 4 weeks and it just so happens I am in the midst of figuring out what to do this fall in MT. So my walnut sized turkey brain...

Re: Montana's 2016 Regs
Have been travelling to MT for over 10 years now and have lots of bonus points invested so will continue to draw for that tag of a life time. Gotta happen sooner than later but in the mean time will continue to hunt with a general license and learn more and more of the country. Just curious about wh...

Re: Turkey Hunting Seminar
Begin by saying it's a lot like elk hunting the rut. That will get their attention and they can relate. Calling, bulging (gobbling), walking...they have similarities. The comparisons with elk and turkey are endlesss. Think about it. They both might run in or sneak in, they could come in loud or qui...

Re: Burris Speed Bead vs. Picatinny rail for FFIII
Thanks guys. I really appreciate the real life experience. Maybe the issues (fogging, thumb smacking, speed bead failures) are why I have only seen FF III's on the receiver. No speed bead for me. Will save the $65

Burris Speed Bead vs. Picatinny rail for FFIII
Will be adding a FFIII to my Remy 1187 for the upcoming season. On the few turkey rigs that I have seen, everybody has mounted the FFIII to the top of the receiver. Buy I noticed that Burris offers what they call a Speed Bead which is simply a mounting plate that is secured by a tab that is sandwich...

Re: Question(s) for the Rifle/Ballistics Experts
Off of a bench and sandbags shoot the gun at a series of targets at 10, 20, 30 yards and so on. Note the elevation and create a ballistics chart. Then compare that to the numbers generated from a ballistics calculator.

Re: 7mm-08 Trajectory.
I think what you are seeing is a flat round of course. But the only way a bullet's trajectory is higher at 200 than 100 is if you have a slow round and a scope that sits way above the barrel. Imagine an arc that passes through 0 at 100 and is drawn down but is still above 0 at 200. What you are seei...

Re: 10 Gobblers entered
My mental math says we have around 610 points. Am I missing something? Or looking at it another way, 10 birds divided into 538 points gets an average of 53.8 points. We got lotsa birds over 60 so our team score should be over 600.
