Re: Cracking the code to a strut zone gobbler?
Thanks for the replies guys. I'm not certain he'll even use the same area this year, but I want to be prepared if he does. I would definitely rather call him to me once he gets on the ground on his way there. I wish I could get close to his roost, but he tends to roost a long way from where I've dea...

Cracking the code to a strut zone gobbler?
I already have an idea of how to play this, but the turkey bug in me has welled up in me and I'm looking for suggestions or advice. I was hunting a 120 acre farm last Spring (85 acres of woods) and I had a mature gobbler respond to my calls, then he set up in a strut zone & refuse to budge towar...

Re: Chufa- Is it worth it?
There's a guy who plants several acres on his lease here in Central N.C. that does pretty well for him. His plot is in soil with a pretty high sand content. He has a nearby pond to irrigate from if the chufa needs it. There aren't any wild hogs here (yet) and he says you will get the chance to see e...

I like their names and also enjoyed the movie. They could have just as likely been called Uncle Rico and LaFawnduh, so count yourself lucky. I hope they take to packing gear & learn to enjoy their work. People used to train mules to pack gear & jump fences for coon hunting around here. So, I...

Very cool story! What are the chances that Jerry happened to be there when it was found?
Thanks for sharing.

Re: Pardon the title - ******* Gobblers
I tangled with one last Spring that would gobble his @$$ off from a strut zone on an old logging road in a bowl shaped hardwood bottom. The woods are sparse enough that he could see a long ways & there was no way to get the drop on him. He strutted in the same general area for an hour (minimum) ...

Re: Any interesting Christmas gifts?
I just got home from my Christmas & 25th anniversary gift. My wife and I gave each other a scuba diving holiday to Ambon, Indonesia. Fortunately, it was a long ways from all the tsunami, volcano, and mudslide activity around Java and Sumatra. Diving the Ambon area was really good. On the second ...

Re: Interesting Conversation!
A neighbor chose to scrape his gravel road with a box blade at the first crack of light on Opening Day of turkey season a few years ago beside the farm I was hunting. Not how I wanted to start the season off. It was my fault for setting up too close to that property boundary, I suppose. I just wish ...

Congratulations on a fine buck, Brice! Nice that he gave you a chance at redemption. The hot girls lead him down the wrong path.

Yeah, same guy. He definitely split his left ear. You've got some good minerals in the soil for him to add that much bone in a year. Good genes on his part too. I've been feeding the deer at my house for 25 years and have several does who range from 1 to 12 years old that I see every day, The bucks ...

Re: Kudos To Cuddeback
Glad you had good success with yours. I had two Cuddebacks fail within 3 weeks of each other that were both barely out of warranty and it was just too bad. One got moisture through the (supposedly) sealed battery door. The other got submerged in hurricane Florence. I don't expect them to cover that ...

Congrats on your new Boykin. One of my best buddies has two. One's 9 years old and the other is 7 months old. His 9 year old is one of the best duck dogs I've ever seen. Have fun.

Re: Loggers
At my old lease, we had loggers use one of our clover plots as a loading deck for the back side of the property. They covered the plot in bark, sawdust, left odd shaped logs & limbs piled up and made horrendous ruts with hydraulic fluid & oil spills in what used to be a pristine, killer clov...

That is a beautiful view. Turkeys & deer in it only makes it better, I'm sure. Once the trees fully turn, it must look like a painting.
Can't tell its Fall here yet. Had 90 degrees in Raleigh today and 95 in Fayetteville. Endless Summer, I guess?

I met some folks in Indonesia last year who have a palm civet they feed ripe coffee beans to, then feed it a bunch of papaya to make their own Luwak coffee. It's supposed to be some of the best tasting, most expensive coffee in the world. I'm not a coffee drinker, so it would be wasted on me. Those ...
