Re: Gobbler Cluck
I use Top Calls glass call for it. The Lynch-World Champion box is really good as well. I hit gobbler clucks on the -gobbler side of box. Gotta love a box that was marketed in 1958. One year older then me-LOL.

Just something different that probably not many other hunters have tried. They are easy to lose- so I need to be careful.

PHEASANT WINGBONE.
Morning members--- This morning I used my pheasant wingbone on the 1st longbeard that I have heard all Spring! I keep seeing big gangs of jakes and plenty of hens walking around! This old guy loved the cutting from the wingbone. Don't think too many hunters out there are using pheasant wingbones. It...

7 days of New York rain.
It has been raining every day since the May 1st opener! All is good though as the toms still gobble in the light rain. Saturday- we are going to see the sun for once and the camo army will be out in force-LOL.

IN THE HEART OF THE SEA- the tragedy of the whaleship ESSEX
Turkey hunters will love this book! It was hard for me to put down! I did not watch the movie and wont give too much away about the book except to say that Moby-Dick was partly based on fact. The whaleship ESSEX was rammed TWICE in the pacific ocean in 1820 as these whales were getting hard to find....

Penns Woods Raspy Glass Caller
Up here in New York on our opener in the light rain---this is the only call the toms were answering. I had another glass call- but nothing. The toms were leaving the roost area and I used the Kenny Morgan---Down The Fence Yelps---just 7 unexcited yelps that the old hen uses when she says----I am lea...

Re: New Jersey Jake Down.
Thanks all! Going to NJ again this Sat---just 17 miles from my NY home. Just saw that my fav parking area is closed and gate locked! Woods road blocked with boulders as well. I am thinking the NJ game dept is trying to keep ATVs out. Had to scout out a new parking area for this Sat.

New Jersey Jake Down.
I needed luck today members. I forgot my facemask! I heard a total of 6 toms this morning. The first 2 saw my face as they walked up the ridge- but 2 others walked up the other side and I nailed a 13 1/2 pound jake. Found my facemask back at the truck on the floor-LOL!

Re: 4 in a line!!
I once saw 2 trucks and at least 5 Spring hunters arrive together. They were trying out box calls in the dark parking lot. Horrible sound! I bet they all hunted together.

Gobbler Cluck
Anybody here use the gobbler cluck in the Spring to bring a tom or 2 in? I prefer this call over the gobbler yelp. I use a double-glass call and snap the hickory peg as hard as I can in the middle. I use it if hen calls are really not working for that day. It works really well---they come looking fo...

Re: Looks like I'm not the only turkey hunter
I once called a bobcat in on a highline next to a lake. He trotted from the side to 5 feet away. I ripped down my facemask and he jumped straight up in the air and sprinted off. All the gobblers became silent after this.

Re: The NEW turkey hunters
I agree with that post on the fanners. I just don't think it would be safe on private ground. It can't be enjoyable either crawling out with a fan in one arm and a shotgun in the other. I bought a dvd that shows this and sold it at a yardsale soon after.

Re: The NEW turkey hunters
Love the replys here! No- I don't hang around blinds. What happens is often- 1 field will lead to another with a farmers access dirt road going through some woods to meet up with both. I walk all that way and see a blind that barrs my path to 2 fields beyond----have to backtrack out. I think that th...

DWAIN BLANDS great book
Any member here ever read- DWAIN BLANDS--Turkey Hunters Digest? I am rereading chapter 21----AMBUSHING, BELLYCRAWLIN, And BUSHWHACKIN. Very interesting to say the least! I hunt public land- so I probably won't do any of what is written. Another gem though from an old-time turkey hunter!

The NEW turkey hunters
The past 2 years or so- I am seeing alot more expensive blinds on the field edges as well as decoys that look really good! Some decoys are now over 100 dollars! I never hear any calling going on from the blinds. I think that alot of the newer hunters don't waste their time in becoming better callers...

Beyond Silent Spring---WATCH YOUR STATE GAME DEPTS!!!
I got plenty of replys on my post SILENTS SPRING??? I posted it also on Old Gobbler.com. Some of the states listed in April of Outdoor Life might see their game depts shorten their Spring Season before they mess with the bag limit. Where I live in New York- my FALL turkey season was (slashed) from 6...

Re: SILENT SPRING?????
Public land hunting for Spring turkeys will see less of a decline. Gobblers wise up alot sooner with more hunters after them.
