Re: What is the plan for afternoon hunting?

I know in New Jersey- I believe the last 2 weeks you can hunt till Sundown. I have never hunted past 12 noon yet- but this coming Spring- hunting till around 2pm would be nice. Probably I will just do some loud cutting on a Box and walk around a bit.

NorEaster..

That was some storm we just went through in South New York. There was a 8 day frigid spell before that! Pretty sure 12 straight days of below 32 degrees beats the record this time of year. Getting close. I had to shovel 3 times yesterday in whiteout conditions. Good thing this frigid spell and massi...

Re: Greatest Dogfight Of WW1!

The Fokker DR1 Triplane that Voss flew is the same type that Manfred Von Richthofen (The Red Baron) flew when he was shot down from the ground by Australian machine gunners as he was looking to notch #81 and firing into a British Camel in front of him. He remained though the top ace on either side a...

Greatest Dogfight Of WW1!

Merry Christmas Members! I wanted to share this video with you all as it is that good! Type in at Utube--German Ace-WERNER VOSS. I am not good with links yet. I have 3 books about 3 of the pilots who took part in this dogfight. September Evening describes this dogfight and Voss--48 victories. Brief ...

I think decoys would work better in a field. I don't think I would use a decoy in the hardwoods if those woods were public lands.

Re: GOBBLER#1 + BUSTED GOBBLERS...

Hope members enjoyed the story. I did have a good talk with the old dude in the parking lot . Have not seen him since. He cost my Brother in law 3-4 gobblers and other Spring hunters were heard to talk of him. Only have a few more minutes on this Library computer-- be back next Friday.

GOBBLER#1 + BUSTED GOBBLERS...

I hope members enjoy this story that spans 8 years. I have not seen Gobbler#1 in a good 2 Spring Turkey Seasons now. There was a time starting around 2007 when he showed up in all my hotspots at some point on a weekend morning. If, I was there first-- Gobbler#1 would bust that gobbler-sometimes by m...

Re: HOW DID TURKEY HUNTERS HERE DO THIS FALL?

I nearly got a turkey yesterday in New Jersey--their last Fall day for turkey hunting. The brood hen answered my lost yelping on my Billy Buice magnolia box with a locust lid. They had a agenda though and moved away while feeding. i circled around them--took 20 minutes. I was close when a few hikers...

Re: HOW DID TURKEY HUNTERS HERE DO THIS FALL?

I got up late today and got out in the woods by 9.15am. Found alot of fresh sign and finally got a response to my lost yelping from the brood hen. I was using a Billy Buice Box-magnolia box with a honey lucust lid. I just recently started to turn the boxes over and run the box on the lid. I like tha...

HOW DID TURKEY HUNTERS HERE DO THIS FALL?

I walked and called until the cows came home here in my home State of New York. A good 10 times, I was out in out 2 week Season. Two of those days- I was out twice. Must have walked near 6 miles on those days. Nice just getting out however. New Jersey has one day left and I will be huffing it up Cup...

HOPE TO BAG A GOBBLER THIS SATURDAY!

I found a roost area this past Sunday with gobbler scratchings at the bases of trees and blowdowns. At least I have a good starting point. If they are right there- I am going to scatter them to the 4 winds really early- no later then 45 minutes before Sunrise so they don't all fly off in the same di...

Re: Hatch

Just yesterday as I arrived to do some pickup skeet shooting to get ready for the upcoming pheasant season here in New York-- big Chris and I saw a very good sized flock from about 80 yards away. There had to be 20 wild turkeys give or take a few. A good 4 hens and the rest of them were poults. Oran...
