Re: Caldwell Lead Sled concerns?
I pattern my shotguns with red dots on a Caldwell Lead Sled using 2 full bags of lead as ballast. Won’t do it any other way. Together, those bags must weigh at least 50 lbs. Never had a problem of any kind doing so.

Lots of stuff here, including gobbling activity on a hunted area and average date of nest initiation. The most relevant info to what is being discussed in this thread is in fig. 4-2, page 18. It may make your head hurt! :dontknow: https://georgiawildlife.com/sites/default/files/wrd/pdf/management/G...

Re: South Carolina DNR recommendations for changes to turkey season
PCP’s second point about hunting impacts on poult recruitment is at the crux of this. The authors of the SC report presuppose the timing of the hunt is having a negative impact. They don’t come close to supporting their supposition with research data. But...let’s say their hunch is correct, as it co...

Re: South Carolina DNR recommendations for changes to turkey season
Where you’ve got to get to support this is faith or belief that there would be more turkeys—not just gobblers—in S.C. if hunters there killed fewer gobblers and/or killed them later in the season. Could be. Could be not. Their data—at least what they reported—doesn’t really speak to that one way or ...

Re: South Carolina DNR recommendations for changes to turkey season
I bothered to only skim the report and may have missed something, but it seems their recommendations are based more on hope and a hunch as opposed to good science. Lots of observations that are suggestive at best. Correlation ain’t the same as causation. When you peel it back, they are concerned abo...

I've passed on everyone I've ever seen. Do you have to use two tags or just one. If its just one I think I'll shoot the next one I see. Did you kill him/them in Green Swamp? Me too, I’ll pass from now on. They’re hard to kill. I shot the left head first as it seemed to be the dominant side. Boom! H...

Has anybody mentioned brain-eating amoebas? Well...they’re there too. According to WebMD, you should be just fine if you avoid “mud puddles” and “soil.” That shouldn’t be difficult.

The numbers for “Green Swamp West” don’t look so bad. I’m guessing it’s a smaller and/or less heavily hunted area. But it may require a limited entry permit. Worth exploring.

Re: Green Swamp WMA in Florida
The Green Swamp sounds like a tough place to kill a gobbler and the numbers don't lie. If I read the 2018 harvest report correctly there were 44 turkeys killed. The swamp consists of 50,000 acres. Again I could be wrong but those are the numbers I saw. I couldn't tell how many hunters there were th...
