Re: How long can you take it?
Last year 20 minutes max. This year as long as it takes to get him to come in and taste my buffet of TSS!(I've learned and read a lot in a year)

Cut reed goes up. If not you might as well be using a no cut call.

Maybe try some different types of calls and maybe different cadences on those calls. The biggest thing is to try locate the bird first with your locator calls. After you know roughly where he is at then you have something to work with.

GLS hit the nail on the head. I used this exact same method yesterday and had everything good to go in two shots.

Re: DEER TICKS ALREADY!!!
We were out scouting here yesterday in Central, VA and when I got home I found a seed tick(baby tick) crawling on my pants. We still had ticks going strong here at the end of deer season at the start of Jan. Not a good sign if they are cranked up already.

Re: Question for Mossberg 500 12 ga.
I have a mossberg 535 12 guage which is essentially the same gun. I just got a Indian Creek .660 choke from midway on sale the other day. I took it out yesterday and sighted in my $22 reflex scope from amazon and it gave me a great pattern. Here is the scope: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00457S...

Love is in the air!
We were on our way to one of our land tracts yesterday morning to do some scouting and saw some turkeys in a open field so we stopped and watched them for a little bit. Drove a little further down the road and we see a monster gobbler strutting in the field. We stop and watch him for a bit then all ...

Re: VA opens Saturday - who's going?
I have been at it since the start of October, in the stand of course with the xbow. Last Wednesday I saw a group of hens and one gobbler but they never came closer than 53 yards and were behind some brush. They putted for at least an hour and of course I forgot my calls so I just had to sit and wait...

Re: Birds quiet one day then gobbling the next
Thanks for the advice guys. We are heading out hopefully Friday and Satuday so we will see what goes down. I will definitely try sitting in the same set up for longer periods of time. Our season here just opened up full day instead of ending at 12 on Monday so we can try some in the afternoons as we...

Re: Birds quiet one day then gobbling the next
As this is my first year spring gobbler hunting I thought I was going crazy. Good to hear it sounds normal. When we don't hear anything we try to setup and cold call on the logging roads and decking areas for 15-20 minutes. I appreciate all you guys help. Any other ideas of where to set up when all ...

Birds quiet one day then gobbling the next
The property I hunt has had its share of ups and downs this year. First day out gobblers sounding off like crazy which finally ended up with a dead gobbler to finish off the day my first spring gobbler ever. The next two times out we heard nothing not even a yelp. We then found out the neighbor had ...

Re: Neighbor Hunting Over Bait
I did finally report it so we will see what happens. I saw him up there this morning riding around on his utv. Luckily we pushed a gobbler and a hen off of the field when we were driving to the back portion of the land so at least there is one left.

Re: Neighbor Hunting Over Bait
We thought about contacting them but he has cows and he will just use the excuse that he is feeding his cows even though it is a pitcher full at a time. Plus around here you are lucky if you have one game warden per county most only have one per two counties. Still may try contacting them because I ...

Re: Neighbor Hunting Over Bait
It is definitely disappointing but all you can do is work hard and it will pay off. I enjoy being in the woods with my brother and dad so their is always a positive to every situation even if we don't hear any gobbling or see any strutting toms.

Neighbor Hunting Over Bait
I am a new member and killed my first spring gobbler on 04/18 this year. As some of you may have read in my previous post the land we leased this year was full of gobblers and turkeys. The first Saturday out we heard at least 4 to 6 gobblers throughout the land. My first hunt ended in success with a...

I know that is rough, but everything happens for a reason and it will only make you more excited for the next hunt. Good luck and I am sure your dedication will pay off.
