Re: The one decoy you would not leave @ home
My goodness, what a thread. I think that Gil just made a joke, and it has gone down hill from there. To the OP, let me say that Gil will do most anything to help a fellow turkey hunter learn how to call one up and hunt in the traditional way. I once expressed admiration for the rivercane calls that ...

Re: Georgia season changes
Georgia uses the honor system to require the reporting of kills. Gil, I've had to report every gobbler killed in GA for several years now. The system is similar to the one AL uses, where the hunter records the kill on the hunting license and then reports it on the state website and gets a harvest n...

Re: Georgia season changes
Something has to be done. The population is nowhere near what it was 15-20yrs ago. The legal Alabama harvest was up 53% last season over the season before. That doesn't sound like we have a declining population, and yet they went with more restrictions anyway. I am going turkey hunting, but I will ...

The 20 ga loads that use 300 MP powder are the 2 oz and 2 1/8 oz of shot . I have yet to load either, but me and others I know have had issues of the primers wanting to pop out of even 1 5/8 oz loads in 20 gauge semi autos,. At first I thought maybe excess pressure, but triple checked my loads and ...

Re: 28ga. double or auto
Doc, we don't really disagree on anything related to the technicals; I just can't live with both my barrels not shooting to the same poi. I can see where setting one up the way you do would be much easier, but I was determined to make mine shoot to the same place. Both of them do, but both required ...

Re: 28ga. double or auto
want a light weight 28ga. gun. are there any problems using a double vs auto such as point of aim In a word - yes. The barrels on a double gun have to be regulated for the ammo for which the gun is intended. A lightweight sxs or o/u is gonna be regulated for light field loads. Put a 1.5 oz TSS load...

Sorry, but the spell check hates the word "cluck" and wants to change it to click. I tried to correct it and instead duplicated the post, and I can't seem to delete it. Sorry for cluttering the thread.

Re: advantages of a trumpet
The current popularity of trumpets on social media might indeed be something of a fad, but I think there will be some folks using them as long as turkeys are hunted. The wingbone was in use by the Creeks centuries ago, and probably other tribes too, though I have only read about the Creeks in the o...

Re: advantages of a trumpet
I've used trumpets and wingbones for over 40 years. The most fun I've had with one has been with the ones I've made out of rivercane. A few years ago I detailed on this site how I do it. They are capable of a clear or raspy tone; easy to make and they fool their share of gobblers. Gil And I was one...

Re: 28ga, SXS, 1oz 7.5Pb?
That's a heavier load than what the gun was probably designed to shoot, so my guess is that the left barrel will shoot a little to the left and the right barrel will shoot a little right. But there is no way to be sure until you shoot it, and even expensive guns can be poorly regulated from the fact...

Re: Plenty More Spring Turkey Hunters Afield.
We had a reported harvest in AL last year that was up over 50% from 2019. It sure doesn't appear to me that it had negative effect on reproduction. In fact, I believe it was the best hatch of my life, and I'm pretty old. I have places to hunt in 3 different places scattered over the state and they a...

Re: Flying w/shotgun
I hate flying with a gun; it seems different airlines have different rules, and it's likely that whoever you deal with at the airport won't know them. A lot depends on where you are going too. Retrieving your gun at Midland, TX would be easy. Atlanta probably won't be. Read the rules ahead of time o...

Re: 1/8” 28 ga Cork
It wouldn't take you but a few minutes to cut out 12 or 20 gauge cork to fit. Neither the shells or the turkeys will ever know the difference.
Good luck finding what you need. I think the components shortage may be with us a long time and we will all have to improvise.

Re: O/U Point of Convergence
I posted this on another forum: It is usually not that hard to move the pattern 8" at 40 yds, but moving it 8" at 16 yds will be a challenge. Since it looks like you are stuck with the gun, I would sure give it a try. I have successfully moved the POI on several sxs guns, so I know it can ...

Spuriosity explained very well how to deal with the issue on an 0/u gun, and using 2 different loads can also solve the issue on SxS guns if the POA difference isn't too bad. I have only worked with SxS guns, and all of mine have required me to resort to a file to get both barrels to shoot to the s...

Guess no more KS for me... Me either, but I I had already decided that I wasn't going back before they made the changes. That was more to do with me getting old than anything about KS; I've hunted it many times and always enjoyed it. If they really have a population decline, it looks to me that the...
