Re: Carbon fiber barrel

Yep, they did carbon fiber barrels on an O/U so you could have longer barrels. Think it was Fabarms.

Re: Carbon fiber barrel

Don't know if it is suitable for anything other than small lead, but I think Winchester had a "plastic" barrel semi at one time. Model 59 or something or other someone will probably correct me on in the next post.

Re: why a 20 over 12

The Federal heavy 7s 20ga load works about as well as a 12ga with lead shells. Unless you are into sniping at long range, a 20ga with those factory shells is all you need for gobblers at normal ranges. A 6# or less gun is much nicer to hunt.

There is a red/green version of that dot for a few dollars more. I predict someone that tries this will have problems.

Re: 28 vs 20 ga for first gun

That turkey/fowl model looked neat on the youtube video I saw. I put the Yildiz youth 20 on the scale this afternoon; 5.58#. The 20 is on the 20ga frame. The .410 O/U is on a baby frame. I would be surprised if the .410 O/U is over 5#. For reference in general terms, most of those old steel frame .4...

Teh interwebs were all atwitter over those slam-firing a while back. I would guess the issue has been resolved by now.

Re: 28 vs 20 ga for first gun

Those are both built on the same frame. The 28 feels a hair lighter, but the 20 youth holds up easier due to the shorter barrels. I think recoil will come down to which load you use, while the manual of arms will be easiest with the 20. Fiocchi has 20ga 3/4oz slow loads for targets, btw. That should...

Re: THE NEW TURKEY HUNTERS

OK, one that acts like a two year old or any other kind of way that does not make you regard him as an especially desirable trophy. What you are willing to let walk in the interest of learning something is your business. If I haven't killed one yet, I'll walk away from a bird that acts older to go f...

Re: THE NEW TURKEY HUNTERS

Anybody else remember that story Gene Nunnery wrote about where the fellas would abandon their overalls and crawl backwards toward the turkey? Ha. I have killed some turkeys by calling and then sprinting up another forty yards. That put them hung up at about thirty yards instead of the seventy they ...

Re: Old Calls Hunting With

I carry a 30 year old QB Easy Yelper. Dirt simple call that the vast majority of them weren't worth the 15 cents worth of wood that it took to make them. You had to look through about 50 of them to find 1 good one but when you found one they work VERY well. I wouldn't be surprised if that call has ...

Re: Shotgun Scope for a Youth 870 20 gauge

Well, $#@!. For no worries bulletproof stuff, georgiagunstore has Trijicon MROs on sale for $350ish. jet.com has Vortex Vipers for $150 with save15 code. That's a 6 moa dot on the Vortex, but that would be alright if you have good eyes. If you have astigmatism don't buy any red dot until you have lo...

Re: Innovative call designs

There's a fella in IN, I think, that developed a sleeved striker design to address the difficulty of finger placement and holding a narrow rod. I was looking at something like that myself, but I have learned to always search for patents before pursuing an idea. Speaking of pots, I played some Hugh V...

Innovative call designs

What do y'all consider some of the most innovative changes in call designs in the modern era? I mean things like the Farmer style trumpet tip or hybrid snuff can/wood barrel tube call.

Putting TSS in a call does not count.

That's good to hear for reference. I'm interested in the 10s to make a light load for a 20 and regular for a .410 if I run out of 9.5s. I'm not changing anything on that 9.5 loads. I even ordered more .22 ammo to have the same boxes to make OSCs from! I'll be ordering 10s and asking around for an un...

The ones I have came that way. I could see where you'd want to condition more to do more, but I ain't good enough to rely on myself for that in the heat of the moment.
