Re: Camoflauge or Stay Black
If you mean "blued" rather than "Parkerized"my preference is dipped. A dipped gun's surface is virtually rust proof. I have a 25 year old 835 factory coated that has zero corrosion attributable to the coating rather than any maintenance on my part.

There's no bad choice with a FF, Docter, Eotech, Aimpoint, Trijicon and a few others. It just depends on how much money you want to spend.

My American Express (Don't leave home without it) carry gun is a Ruger LCP .380. First in the snout is a Buffalo Bore 90 gr JHP, followed up with a magazine filled with Buffalo Bore 100 gr. hard cast FN.

Re: 8 Years Ago Today
I am touched. What a terrible loss. I had a friend who buried two daughters. He had a photo of them in his office with a yellow sticky on the photo with his scrawled hand writing: "Bitter or Better?" No one can know how you feel except someone who has been there, and all I can do is give m...

A bull sprig is a drake pintail. A Hollywood Mallard is a Northern Shoveler. GilHognutz wrote:What is a sprig or a Hollywood mallard? Maybe a dumb question, but I don't get out much..

Gave him to a friend & he ate him. Never ate duck either ! vaturkey :struttin: Rare wood duck is my favorite game to eat. Second is snipe followed by dove, then woodcock. I tend to prefer the darker meat gamebirds, but enjoy quail and turkey as well. Thinking seriously of jump shooting woodies ...

Tommy, counting ducks before you kill them is violating the old saw: "don't count chickens until they hatch".

Re: OOOPS, got greedy this morn!
It has been a long, long time since I've had mallards pitch in through the trees to land in my blocks. I can remember it like it was yesterday. A flight of about 15, circled and circled, cupped their wings and fell like sycamore leaves as they side-slipped, back-peddaling their wings. Three of us wi...

Re: Duck recipe
Tommy, the first time I tried the Cajun recipe was when we had a hurricane (David) knock out power for over a week where I lived at the time. Had a freezer full of game so we didn't have much choice but to cook what was in there. We had gas but no sparky. There are a bunch of Cajuns around here work...

Re: Duck recipe
A few decades ago a buddy owned an old rice field across the Savannah River from Georgia into SC. Before he built a cabin on a hammock, we'd camp on an old dike. We'd hunt both afternoons and mornings. After the morning hunt, we had time on our hands and I'd cook ducks like a local Cajun cook taught...

Re: Duck recipe
No shortcut breasting or skinning for me. I pluck a duck as clean as a Perdue chicken using the old paraffin trick. With a "beer can" roaster, on a hot grill with top down or in an oven at 500 degrees F, I cook a woodie for about 15-18 minutes for rare to medium rare. Mallard a little long...

The style I use is a closed loop just wide enough to grip with one hand. it has two 8-10 inch lengths of cord with antler pieces making cinch loops to hold legs. The bird is carried over the shoulder with one hand.

Easy mistake to make. He confused a turkey tote with the length of string required to bring a turkey in. As in "he came in on a string...48 feet long to be exact."

Re: lead is dead?
This is pretty much old news regarding the closing. The announced closing was several years ago. Doe Run was a primary smelter which processed lead ore (galena) into lead ingots. Most of the lead used in ammo making comes from the secondary smelters which aren't affected. The secondary smelters proc...

With TSS 9's, 1, 1 5/16 and 1 5/8 ozs. are reliably deadly out of the 20 gauge at ranges far in excess of 40 yards. You must enjoy recoil. ;) In the one ounce load of TSS 9s using the Kyle Smith recipe there are 362 shot traveling at 1250 fps more or less. The penetration and downrange penetration o...
