Re: Carlson rifled choke in a remington 870
I have a Hastings rifled barrel for my 1187, and of about 10 different slugs tested, Lightfield 2.75" was the clear winner. Never shot the rifled choke tube though.

Re: More Mossy SA28 patterns
All strong patterns, but especially the second one. How much do those guns weigh and what is the velocity of that 1&5/8 oz load?

Top pattern for me. It has the most in the 10-20. Ten' core is fine with all of them.

Re: Rizzini Beccaccia 28 ga.O/U
Rizzini makes beautiful shotguns, but if I was going to spend that much on a shotgun, it would have a color case hardened receiver. Not a fan of the shiny aluminum at all.

Re: Mossberg SA-28ga .515 Trulock 8.5x9
Great on a non-moving target, But IMO you need to evaluate a .520- .525 for a good core, but killing 20" which you don't have in that pattern. Just curious, what does it take in the 20" to kill a turkey ethically? 250 is my goal in a single barrel gun, and in no case, would I accept a pat...

Re: Over Under VS Semi Dove Guns
I have shot a ton of doves with SA gas guns as well as my Beretta O/U. I generally carry my 12 ga 1187 for the reduced recoil. When I went to Argentina in the late 90s I bought a 20 ga 1100 that tipped the scales at almost 8 pounds, the heaviest 20 ga I have ever handled, but boy was it a soft shoot...

Re: Question for TSS shooters/hunters
And do not discount wind drift. At 60 yds, the pattern will drift 13" with a 10 mph direct crosswind, something not unusual at all in spring, especially on the plains. The shot is capable at 60 yds, but a lot can go wrong at that distance.

Try gamehide elimitick clothing. No sprays no mixing and no ticks! Big believer in the GH Elimitick clothing. Bought a set about five years ago. Have NEVER found a tick on me while wearing it. I do buy the 10% concentrate liquid and mix my own to spray my snake boots, turkey vest, work clothes, etc...
Re: 870 12ga
I have a Burris 336 and FF II on my 1187, which seems to have the same receiver profile as the 870. Nice, low, clean looking setup.

Re: Going to take the T$$ plunge choke recommendations please
I'm going to avoid the pissing match but have found .675" diameter to be my best option in both of my 12 ga turkey guns with TSS handloads. An old Rem SF HS .675 in my 1187 and a ST .675 in my Beretta 686 UL. Both give exceptional patterns to 60 yds with 1&5/8 oz handloads of TSS 9s. Good l...

Re: 28 gauge mossberg
That's why I don't screw around with new guns. I have old guns that shoot great. Would drive me batshit crazy to buy a new gun that won't shoot everything it is designed to shoot right out of the box and with a decent trigger to boot. Cheap guns equal cheap results. I have no patience for that. Edit...

Re: Hearing protection
I wear a set of the older analog ESP in the ear units that are made from a mold of your ear. They do ok. I can usually locate the sound of a turkey walking in the leaves, but have trouble coursing a gobble that I can hear but can't pinpoint. They do mess with the sound of your own calling. The newer...

I have no personal experience with back bore/overbore barrels, but theoretically, they should take more open chokes than regular barrels to keep the relative constriction the same.

Re: 12 vs 20 - 16?
12, 20, or 16...1&5/8 oz is what I would shoot. That is plenty of payload to do what you want to do. I handload and could shoot any load I want in my 12 ga 6.75 pound O/U, but choose to load 1&5/8 oz. Anything more is a waste of expensive TSS and an unnecessary shoulder pounding in a lightwe...

Re: Chokes
If the lead shell you plan to use contains less payload weight (as is probable), put the TSS in the bottom barrel and the lead in the upper barrel. Your gun will likely shoot closer POIs with that arrangement than vice versa. O/Us tend to shoot the upper barrel to a higher POI than the lower barrel....

Too tight for my liking. Would love to see 50 or so pellets moved from the 10 to the 10-20.

Re: What is considered a good pattern density?
Thanks for the replies. I asked because my friend let me shoot one of his 12ga 3" 2oz #9 TSS shells from my Benelli Supernova with a Carlsons Long Beard .660" tube and I got 398 pellets in a 10" circle at 41 yards. Makes me wonder how good the pattern could be if I used a more TSS fr...

My goal is 50% of the pattern in the 10" circle, so 360 for a two ounce load of 9s.

Will that be sabotless? I will be following this project with great interest. I hunt with a that gun with Blackhorn and Barnes 290 T-EZs. It shoots 1.5-2.0 MOA. I have considered doing that conversion several times and have a bottle of 4198 on the shelf in the loading room. Please keep us posted.

Re: Sxs or o/u
Personal preference. I have upland hunted a ton with a lightweight O/U and a little bit with a SxS. I can hit better with an O/U, but that may be down to familiarity as I have also shot a lot of clays with an O/U. If I wanted a straight grip and double triggers, I would probably go SxS. If you prefe...

Re: More Yildiz O/U testing
A friend is raving about the new Winchester Western, high antimony, 8%, Diamond Grade 20 gauge, 2 3/4", 1 oz., 1250 fps shot shells. The harder shot exhibits very little deformation even when choked down and is his "new" shell for his side by side open barrel which produces a 10"...
