If you had posted on the handloading forum you might have seen how to make one out of a dowel and exacto blade. Lots of good info there. The link is a "sticky".

Rem. 870 Express 12 ga. Super Mag
I'm giving to the son of family friends my Super Mag. He's taken an interest in turkey hunting. My generosity doesn't extent to loading TSS for him. ;) What readily available choke (don't even suggest the most expensive ones) would one suggest to shoot, gag, Win. Longbeards?? I figure that's the lea...

Yes, it's brass. In that particular gun, brass works better than plastic. Others have found the reverse to be true in their guns. Gil

River Bird
Last Sunday I went to a bird which was the nearest of three I heard at first light, and I estimated 400 yards to him in the tree. At 200 yards, I ran into water. River was into the woods and he was closer to the other side than to my side. I backed out and looked for one of the other birds. All stop...

Re: What is considered a good pattern density?
Minimum of 100 pellets in 10" circle at 40 and 60 yards. Assuming sufficient velocity, the 70% rule would require 200 at 40, 140 at 50 and 98 at 60. Of course one would have more than 200 at 40 with the "Y?" load. At 60 yards with a perfectly centered head/neck shot expect shot in the...

A seemingly endless roll of construction paper is available from HD for about $10. I use wooden clothes pins to attach it to a steel banjo real estate sign. Plenty wide to capture the entire pattern. Gil

Re: What wood for box call for SE
When you make of list of callmakers that Neil Cost had a direct influence, you need to include Albert Paul. Albert Paul's box calls are as fine as any box call you will ever take into the turkey woods. I had a nice Paul "Henry Davis" holly short box, smaller than a standard Cost or Lamar ...

Re: What wood for box call for SE
Neil Cost would often cut red cedar from standing dead trees on a friend's property near Edgefield, SC. I have a box made by Lamar Williams 20 years ago made from poplar with a walnut lid. Cost mentored him in addition to several other call makers here in the SE. My earliest Cost call is all cedar c...

Re: What wood for box call for SE
Neil Cost used several different woods: Cedar, poplar, butternut. He often used a walnut striker for these woods, but also the same wood the box was made. He also used cypress, but not as much as he used poplar. Gil

Re: Need help with roll crimper for 410
I loaded up 3 for tomorrow checking zero and first day in the woods. Note the crimper. It is clamped to the end of a board. With my knee pressed against the board pushing it into the coffee table, with my left hand clamping the board and the rto's lever to raise the shell against the crimper, I hand...

Re: Need help with roll crimper for 410
I second the recommendatio from the reloader's network. A buddy uses one for 10 gauge and it makes a great crimp. It's a 4 pin head. I don't know about the .410 but I've seen the one my buddy has and its well made and solid. I second the use of a vintage hand cranker. Only new ones I've had were fro...

Re: Worlds Smallest Turkey Gun
The discussion of changing POA/POI is a sure fire way for some to burn up ammo unnecessarily especially "counting clicks". There is no reason one should have to shoot 4 dove loads in zeroing in a shotgun. As has been discussed here by some, an easier method involves a steady, repeatable re...

Re: Worlds Smallest Turkey Gun
My former Super Bantam did fine with a PG .570. Only other I tried was the factory choke and a PG .555 but the .570 performed best with Hal's 3" 1 5/8 load.
I gave it to my buddy's granddaughter and she loves it.

The battery cap of the FF3 properly installed still looks as if cross threaded with a side higher than the other, but it's not.

In the photo with 4 guns, top gun is unmodified. It's a 1954 Beretta M412 single shot, full. The other guns are a Yildiz TK12 with adjustable Skinner peep sight and Marble post mounted on sold rib. I duracoated action to conceal coin finish. Shortened barrel to overall 25" to the end of Sumtoy ...

Shoot Doc a pm. He has rigged out a half dozen or more for friends and family and could give you more info about issues, etc. I don't think he had POA/POI issues. He used a Marble post and Skinner Peep mounted on the rib. Last week I gifted my Bobwhite to a friend's grandson. I used it strictly as a...

Re: Which 28?
There's not a more practical 28 ga. than a CZ Bobwhite with double triggers. DocHoliday's rig is one that seems to fit the bill. Left barrel choked for distance, right for close in. Instant barrel selection with 2 triggers. Gen 2 is chambered for 3" I believe. The Gen 1, 2.75" but 3" ...

Re: field dressing your turkey
There was a meateater episode of a man hunting the mountains of NM. If memory serves, he hiked in 15 or more miles and after shooting one or two birds, field dressed the birds, hiked out with them to meet someone to take them out to refrigeration and went back in. Wore me out just listening to the a...
