Very fortunate!
There's a guy in my hometown who carries a bunch of copperplated shot in his face from the same kind of negligence (I hate to call it an "accident"). He also didn't have any eye/teeth damage. Lucky.

Re: be careful out there
You know any details hal? When somebody gets "birdshot" in their face, I cant help but wonder if they were holding a decoy in front of it trying the whole "turkey reaping" crap. We can't do that in PA... but I did some digging, and it seems that so far there has been exactly zer...

NEF 20 gauge single shot... what picatinny rail?
Anyone who has set up a NEF 20 gauge for a red dot or scope... I want to have the chamber area drilled and tapped for a rail.
Did you find a particular rail model that works well with this shotgun?

I have a couple Barronett 350 Grounders. They're OK.
You want the Barronett 350 Big Cat. They fixed all the annoyances I had with the Grounders. Watch for them on Ebay and you can get them pretty cheap.

Limbsaver recoil pad for 870 Youth Model
Does anyone know for sure if there's a Limbsaver recoil pad that fits the 21" 870 youth 20 gauge WITHOUT grinding?
I'm not sure if the one on Limbsaver's site requires grinding or not, thought I'd ask in case someone has experience with this.

Re: Killed my first tss bird
Just curious as to what kind of drop you were seeing at that range. A lot of people won't believe that you can get full body penetration by those little TSS BBs. In my setup and with the load I'm shooting, about 10". But if someone plans on shooting at any range over 50, they need to check the...

Re: Filming your hunts....
For personal use I just use a little Sony Handycam, I think it was under $100 on eBay. I bought a couple extended batteries for it and a 32GB card. It's plenty good for that, especially at turkey ranges. Now, my brother used to film for Wired Outdoors and had a really nice, pro camera. It is a hassl...

Re: Recommended red dot for Yildiz single shot
I'm personally of the "buy once cry once" camp. Buying what you want first is a lot cheaper than buying something cheap, only to buy the better one later. I'd skip the "cheap" step. I have a FF3 on my son's 870, and I'm considering a Vortex Strikefire II on my shotgun. And don't ...

Gunsmith for choke installation, etc.?
I bought a NEF 20 gauge single shot last year, and I want to turn it into my lightweight turkey slaying machine. What I want done: Barrel chopped to 18.25" Threaded for Remington chokes (my son uses an 870, might as well keep it consistent) Drilled/tapped/picatinny rail installed POSSIBLY forci...

Re: Thinking about a Kansas hunt with my son. How?
I'm not too worried about license cost when I'll be driving from PA, LOL. Drop in the bucket. One of the things I liked about Kansas is that 12 year olds can hunt "alone" if they have a HSE certification. I wouldn't leave him alone-alone, but he's been hunting since he's 7 and it might be ...

Is there another state we should consider for a great hunt and good chances at fired up birds? Besides eastern... We want a different subspecies than what is in our backyard.

Thinking about a Kansas hunt with my son. How?
My son is 11... he turns 12 in December. I'm thinking about going on a one week trip with him out west to hunt turkeys. I just got a new job that has afforded me lots of vacation, and I can spend a week on this. We've done OK in PA, but the birds aren't very responsive and I want to have a good fath...

Well, we can't complain about the last day. Except the birds had lockjaw. I told him, we're all in on the last day. Run n' gun. Find the birds. Well, our starting position didn't yield anything. We went across the field and sat in a protruding corner for a bit. When we got up to leave an hour or so ...

It's been a tough, frustrating and non-productive season for us. I'm looking forward to the break. On that note, my battery powered, portable Margaritaville frozen concoction maker should be here soon, and I'll be enjoying some tropical drinks while relaxing on my boat on the river throughout the su...

I went out alone tonight to try to find them again. Four hens in the field... And I heard a single gobble way off on the distance an hour before sundown. Crow calls, owl hoots and cutting couldn't get another gobble out of anything. It really seems like things are winding down quickly around here. W...

I'm gonna try that kee kee run tomorrow. We've been sitting silent, there is a hen that roosts near our blind that we've been targeting and she is MOUTHY. Lots of yelping. We've mostly been playing the silent game, hoping that they happen to feed near us in the 1.5 hours we get each morning. I think...
