Re: Lignum Vitae shipped

Since this sale came indirectly from the Unicoi show, I sold it at the show price of $125.

Lignum Vitae shipped

Finished this call up this week for a member here and shipped it yesterday. This Lignum Vitae is one of my favorite woods to work with and makes a great sounding call. Hope he enjoys using it as much as I enjoyed turning it.

Re: Unicoi 2019

I'll be there!! Stop by and test drive one of my trumpets. I wish I could make it to Unicoi. Will you be at Nashville? I'd like to run one of your trumpets. No sir I won't be in Nashville this year. Hope to have the time to do a few more shows next year (2020) and may make it to Nashville then. Uni...

Re: TriStar O\U .410

Best I recall, the bottom barrel shot about 4" lower than the top one. Never had to shoot the bottom one at a turkey because they have always dropped with the first shot. I'll try to get the time to shoot it again before long and get a pattern and regulation.

Re: TriStar O\U .410

2 Briley XF chokes and a FF2 mounted on the rib. 40 yd gun with Hal's 13/16 load of 9.5.

I'll see if I can find a pic of the pattern, but it's been a while since I did that so I'm not sure I can.

Re: Eastern "Mountain" turkeys

Jim "GobbleNut" Bates nailed it IMO. I do believe the southeast and Atlantic coastal east was widely populated with what we now call the Osceola turkey and once mostly eliminated, the land was re-stocked with what we now call the Eastern turkey. We kill plenty of Osceola looking turkeys he...

Re: Who were your mentors?

My mentor for both turkey hunting and call making was Charles Hudson of Travelers Rest SC. I worked with him as his only employee in his backyard shop for about 2 years around 79-80 and listened to him call almost every day while we worked on import cars (mostly VW bugs). We discussed turkeys and tu...

Re: why 9 over 8 tss?

I can see where it is a huge advantage in the 20 gauge but im just thinking if you are going to shoot a 2 1/2 oz load why not shoot 8 or 7 shot. honestly probably still same pellet count as a 20 It's not a question of "why not" but rather "why should you" and the answer is there...

Re: why 9 over 8 tss?

Nitro is duplexing told me it holds the shot together for tighter patterns I can't confirm this but could that be true? I honestly believe that is a sales pitch, I can't see how duplexing shot sizes could possibly keep the shot string together better. If I were to ever load TSS for a 10 gauge I wou...

Re: why 9 over 8 tss?

IMO 9 is the ultimate TSS shot size and that doesn't change simply because the gauge does. Only exception to that is 10 is possibly better if shooting a 410 in order to keep up the pattern out to 40 which is about the farthest I'd shoot 10's anyway.
